MeFi post: Foot by Foot, oooh baby
It sounds like, so far, this investigation hasn't got a leg to stand on, and yet the taxpayers are footing the bill!

Ask post: Wifi DPF
It goes without saying that I would set up WiFi for them. And, again, I'm looking specifically for a frame that can automatically load stuff from an online album or its own email box rather than just using the WiFi functionality to access other computers on the LAN.
posted to Ask Metafilter by Krrrlson at 9:36 AM on October 28, 2008
How do you plan on avoiding subscription feeds for the WiFi service?

Possibly by using a product like the one you linked, which specifically says there are no subscription fees.
posted to Ask Metafilter by Krrrlson at 11:35 AM on October 28, 2008
Okay, to clarify further, I was referring to any subscription fees the manufacturer of the frame might charge to access the automatic downloading capability of the frame. I am not referring to the cost of an Internet connection.

MeFi post: Aboot time those hoosers let us in EH!
Nah... everyone knows you'll just whine and threaten to move to Canada or, at most, post an Askme about it.

I mean, I sort of chuckled, but I kind of think they started making this before Canada elected another Conservative and Obama was measuring the White House for drapes.

That conservative will probably end up to the left of Obama in the grand scheme of things.

So, Canadians -- I call upon you to move en masse to Texas, Florida, Colorado, Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia.

Do you realize that the entire population of Canada is maybe 3/4 of Florida+Texas? It's admirable to see that US Americans have made such progress in finding things on maps; perhaps now you can start to tackle arithmetic.

Ask post: Dead display on Dell laptop. Tell me its not terminal.
If you're asking if you can do it yourself, you probably can't. It will, more than likely, involve at least a little bit of microsoldering.

I sincerely doubt that. Laptop screens are usually designed to be easily removable for servicing and replacement. If you have ever disassembled a laptop before, you should be able to do it. Cost is a whole other story, though. You'll need to find the part number of your screen and hope it's on eBay.

Now that I think about it, I had the exact same problem with my laptop. A crappy connector was to blame; fortunately, I did not have to resolder anything but just seat the connector a little more firmly. To get to the connector, I had to remove the keyboard and top panel, but of course this was a Toshiba, not a Dell.

MeFi post: A View from Iran
Golboo Fiuzi, a young resident of Tehran, talks to fellow Iranian citizens about why they think the US hasn't attacked yet, their political views, opinions about globalization and their lives under UN imposed sanctions masks Iranian state propaganda under the guise of street journalism.

FTFY
posted to MetaFilter by Krrrlson at 11:05 AM on October 20, 2008
And it's manifestly impossible that actual Iranians would resent the U.S.-led blockade unless paid by their government.

It's manifestly impossible that actual Iranians have such a perfectly cohesive worldview that blames all their problems on Western "globalization." If you believe this video is an accurate representation of Iranian opinion rather than a carefully manipulated agenda vehicle, you should be asking what's wrong with your own head.

MeFi post: Terror At Home
This was clearly a false flag attack by Iranian Islamists to incite instability in the US. The powerful homosexual lobby served as an accomplice, because members of the congregation refused to turn gay. The attackers were financed by high-ranking Democrats in Washington.

What, it doesn't sound as good if it's not your brand of unsubstantiated accusations?

Ask post: Mean teacher or loving educator???
Been there several times. Roughly one out of five times, the instructor turned out to be the good kind of hardass and the situation ended in mutual respect; the other four, they were just assholes. If she's taking his class a year ahead of schedule, he might also be having a bit of an: "Oh, so you think you're so smart, but I know better!" response.

Unless the guy is truly out there, your best bet is to lay low and ride it out. If there are any parent-teacher... [more]
