Potential for seven years of bad luck?
For half-inch drywall, they should be fine. Quarter-inch, not so much. There's a vast collection of nice drywall hooks out there, though, that will be a lot more reliable.

Is it worth pursuing accounting designation at 39?
My mother completed the CMA program when she was over 40, so you certainly won't the oldest student in the program, although you'll be at the older end of the scale. However, she had worked in accounting since a much younger age. It sounds like you might enjoy the freedom of having your own practice, but it will take a while to build it up, so tack on a few (likely unprofitable) years beyond the completion of the program.
Also, no one really uses "programme."

Behold the MT-10,000
A slider switch might be a double-throw switch, meaning it disconnects the chord selector input from one terminal and connects it to another when you flick the switch. It might also be a single-throw switch, meaning it is either connected, or disconnected. You can determine this by examining the switch; it should have 3 connected terminals in the former case, and 2 in the latter.
If this is a double-throw switch, I recommend getting a solid-state SPDT (single-pole... [more]

Nthing the GFCI thing. I once spent half an hour banging my head against a similar problem, until I found the tripped GFCI... in a different room, on a different floor of the house.

A friend of mine moved overseas recently with her fiance for a year (the major difference is that she has a job lined up -- just transferred to a different office of the company), and so far they both love it.

Сырники (syrniki)

2 tbsp sugar
Salt (add to taste)
Butter or oil for frying

What's the deal with these sores on my lips?
I recommend rinsing your mouth with salt water instead of applying peroxide. In my experience, it helps any kind of oral sore heal better than direct application of antiseptic. YMMV.

Is taking a year off uni for work a bad idea?
Do it if the job is providing you with beneficial experience, or if you worry you'll have a difficult time at school right now. Don't do it because of the cash or because it's comfortable to stay in one spot. If you are a capable worker, the company wants you because you come a lot cheaper without a degree, not because it cares about your future.

How can I learn some basic electronics?
Re: software, there are a few free versions of the SPICE circuit simulation software (look up PSPICE 9.1 or SuperSPICE). You're going to have to learn some theory in order to use SPICE, however.
Re: "Art of Electronics" by Horowitz and Hill. It's a good textbook because it's not heavy on the math and it explains things qualitatively, but it won't give you step-by-step instructions for hands-on projects, although it does have a lot of circuit designs. I... [more]

Am I responsible for the Holocaust?
I know people who are reluctant to visit Germany because of the Holocaust, but no rational individual would hold the views you describe... nor would any well-mannered individual express them in that way. Maybe she was drunk or having a shitty day.
Rather than wasting your anger on this incident, you could simply resolve to do whatever is in your power to avoid repeating the mistakes of the past if, God forbid, you should one day face a similar choice. It's an honourable... [more]

Should we repair unclaimed damage before an inspection?
I think it's fairly standard practice to handle things outside of insurance, and I've never heard of anyone in Ontario penalized for it... especially since you haven't filed any claims. There's no guarantee your rates won't go up -- for example, if they decide your vehicle is somehow unsafe -- but I doubt that you need to fix the cosmetic damage.

Perhaps you have some internal expectation that, now that you plan to marry this person, everything is going to be naught but sunshine and unicorns, and you pick fights over small things because they interfere with that image of perfection? The period surrounding the proposal does not carry some magical exemption from the numerous incidents of friction that occur between people every day.

Seborrhea management tips?
Although many dermatologists claim otherwise, I've found that diet is important. There are obvious things like avoiding junk foods, the rest is more of a trial-and-error thing. Figuring it out is a very slow process.
Avoid using fancy soaps and detergents to wash your face. If you must, use plain glycerin soap. A better option is to use a bit of cornstarch as a mild abrasive to clean off your face, then apply moisturizer or oil.
Finally, I tend... [more]

If you go to a large school, it's a virtual certainty that there will be clubs and organizations centered around aspects of Indian culture in particular and international students in general. Try them out if you haven't done so already -- it's a connection to home, and you'll meet people who are in the same boat.

What Would History Have Done?
So what, if anything, has changed?
People started expecting occupying powers to treat the residents of the occupied nations humanely. Colonial powers had the luxury of summary executions and mass murder if they needed to get the population in check.
On top of that (particularly in Iraq) it is easy for terrorists to obtain weapons, supplies, and explosives from neighbouring regions sympathetic to their cause. Such cooperation... [more]

Why are mouse sensors in the middle of the mouse?
I believe it's cost and ease of manufacturing. The buttons are in the front (often many buttons, wheels, etc.) -- jamming the sensor in there as well would probably require smaller, more expensive components.

Yeah, it's frowned upon. Yeah, it's been done. A friend of a friend recently married her former TA, who she started dating during the class.

I haven't the power.
The rainbow cable goes directly to the battery connector, right? Inspect the cable, or check for shorts with a multimeter... if you replaced the DC board and battery, and the spark disappears upon unplugging the cable, that could be the problem.
Of course, there is no guarantee that you didn't fry the new DC board as well :P

How does a balance spring keep itself wound, or does it?
From what I understand, the balance spring is a torsional spring with very low loss which, together with the balance wheel, forms an underdamped mass-spring system. It does lose a tiny bit of energy with each oscillation cycle, but that is replenished by the energy stored in the main spring -- this energy is transferred via the arm of the escapement, which is acted on by gears that are eventually coupled to the main spring.

Everything that I build starts to smoke...
If you need a more precisely regulated voltage, a boost converter is fairly easy to build. You can sample a boost converter chip from a number of manufacturers, and the datasheet will usually contain a typical application circuit and instructions on choosing the values of external components. You'll need to determine what current levels you need, as others have said.

That works better with a mild salt solution.
