What do do about late wedding thank-yous?
Congratulations. My wife and I also married on May 3rd this year. We split our thank-you-notes up. She just finished all hers last month. I still have eight left. I believe desuetude is correct that etiquette calls for six months. So really, you're okay.
I did five a night and was on a roll until I started hitting the people I barely knew. The last eight I have are all people my parents invited. I feel awkward trying to write those notes.
I... [more]

How much do you spend on fixing up a car for resale?
Look up the value of your car at Kelly Blue Book. I'd chose the Private Party value. Once you've entered in all the relevant information about your car, you'll be given three estimated values based on the condition. Excellent, Good and Fair. Each of these conditions will be explained. You should be able to use this to determine if you would get a good return on any repairs made to the car.

How reliable is a Suzuki Aerio or SX4?
I'm not sure if it speaks to the reliability of the cars, but when my wife was looking at a car loan from Bank of America she was told that Suzuki and Daewoo vehicles were not eligible for loans.

WELLS FARGO IS EVIL.
I would call and calmly explain the situation. I've had many fees refunded by my bank simply by asking. Be nice and be honest, don't get hostile. Remember their name and use it while speaking to them. If that person can't help you, thank them and then ask if you can speak to someone who can.
"Thank you for your time, (their name), I understand you can't help me with this. Would you be able to connect me with someone else who might be in a position to help me clear... [more]

Also, remember that you don't always have to go up the chain of command when speaking to businesses. Sometimes, all it takes is calling back and getting a different person who is not having a bad day or just more compassionate.

Dog attack.
dragonsi55 makes an excellent point about bullets. Not only can they travel through bodies, they don't always do so in a straight path. It would be tragic to have a bullet exit the dog in the direction of the child you were trying to save.

DragonCon Tips?
Definitely take MARTA - from Perimeter Station, or above. Not only is DragonCon this weekend, but the Alabama-Clemson game is Saturday night. The few lanes that will be open downtown will be filled with fans streaming in from Alabama and South Carolina. It's not going to be pretty.

Someone hacked my… something... somehow
Yeah, I guess it just weirded me out that the first error I got was incorrect password and when I put my password in again the error changed to the IMAP error.
I did check my sent mail and the email is in my sent box. I didn't realize spammers could mess with the sent mailbox, I thought that they could only spoof the sender.
Anyway, these answers are making me feel better.

Do burglars read AskMeFi?
I put my valuables in a box at the bottom of my laundry basket. If I'm on a long vacation, I'll leave extra boxers spilling over the sides with a special pair that I decorated with chocolate syrup right on top.

@brownpau Yeah, I got that link from the comments of the site you linked. Now, it would be really cool if the barista went home and ranted on his blog about the "asshole" customer he had to deal with and we could find that link.

Saturday nights, Metalsome Live Rock Band Karaoke.
Dad's Garage is always a great time, anytime. Tonight is the opening of FWD in the Top Shelf of Dad's. It was co-created by Mefi's own clunkyrobot. I'll be there for the opening tonight.

Metafilter - lessons learned from the BB problem?
Well, when used in this context it can certainly raise questions regarding all parties involved. One wonders whether the need or the desire has more pull in the end. We’re not professing to have all the answers, it’s just simply a matter of this vs. that in an otherwise misinterpreted forum of individual perspectives. To imply anything else can be misconstrued as dubious in the least whereas, on the other hand, to imply nothing at all leaves the question open-ended and aimless. The key is... [more]

How painful will my tonsil removal be?
I had my tonsils out when I was 30. It was extremely painful.
I stayed on the couch for a week and a half, taking pain medication and slipping in and out of consciousness to watch the Food Network, longing for the day that I could once again swallow without excruciating pain shooting throughout my throat and ears. I lost 15lbs. in two weeks.
However, I would gladly do it over again if it meant avoiding the constant infected tonsils that laid me... [more]

Maui-Wowie
Just got back from Maui. We stayed a few days at the Grand Wailea. Fantastic resort. Right on a beautiful beach. Several pools connected by small water slides. Two big water slides. Swim up bar in a grotto type area. Short lazy river area. There is also an adult pool if you want to get away from children. Beautiful gardens.
Had the breakfast buffet, was just ok. Ate at Humu Humu in the resort. Great food, open air atmosphere, great for sunset dining.

Beard, or no beard for my wedding?
Wow, there are so many compelling arguments both ways. To answer some questions, I’ve had my beard for six months. I’ve known my fiancée for three years. She loves the beard, but also likes me sans beard. Maybe she’s not terrified of making the decision, she’s been thinking about it for days, since I first asked her, but she’s had to make a billion other decisions this past year regarding the planning and I feel like she’s burned out. I probably shouldn't have brought it up to her in the first... [more]

Thanks for all the great answers. After reading the thread several times last night with my fiancée, I decided to shave. I’m beardless and I feel twelve, but she is really happy and that makes me happy.
I’m letting it grow back on the honeymoon, though.
Thanks again.

Ex-Files: Summer Vacation Issue
You are well within your rights to tell him that you changed your mind and are no longer comfortable with them traveling together. As your boyfriend, he should consider your feelings above those of his ex. I can see where you might be scared to discover where he holds his priorities by asking him to make a choice, but you need to tell him. If your are agonizing over this now, it’s only going to feel a hundred times worse if they go on the trip together. Not to mention the nagging suspicions... [more]

Am I a prude because I wanted to date for a month before hittin' the sheets?
If he really wanted to be with you -- You as a person -- he would have waited. Anyone not willing to wait is looking for cheap thrills and is not worth your time.
He continues to flirt in hopes he'll either wear down your defenses, or catch you at the "right" time or in a weak moment. He's done putting any real effort into it, though. That's probably why he's only flirting in emails.
