Did Zoloft work for you?
My short experience with it lowered my libido and made me extremely emotional and unsure of myself when they were prescribed for mood issues!
YMMV

That's not logical
Check the sampling rate. If you're rendering in Live at 41000 and importing it in to a Logic track thats locked at 48000 you'll run in to that. It's not going to be that dramatic with this scenario. But if you're doing a 44.1 to 22 it'd be slowed down by half tempo and half pitch.

Share your IT infrastructure, hosting and version control thoughts for web development firms?
Whatever you do as far as where/who's hardware it is you want the capability to reboot or turn on a machine remotely. In addition to installing the OS. Your IT guy will want this when he comes on. iLO as Project F suggested is the most popular option(as long as your provider is using HP machines). Or bring it in house and shell out some dough for a short term consultantation to get you up & running. You should at least be redundant on power, pipe & storage. Don't forget monitoring! A... [more]

How can I make nice sound effects for a user interface?
I remember finding some great progs years ago for one off sounds from this SynthZone software list. In particular Orangator. But it doesn't appear on that list anymore. This place has a screenshot and a zip to DL Orangator.
Stomper was also really damn powerful. I think the synth engine ended up being absorbed in to some 'hardware' based drum sequencer.
This is all old tech, but perfectly useful if you just want to create one off bleeps and blips.... [more]

Collaborating On Music Live Over The Internet?
Ninjam. It's fun when you can get over the inherent time delay(the time delay is what makes it work!). The public servers are still in use. Best to set up your own Ninjam server for this application. There's a learning curve as far as getting your audio routed through it.

Job market in Portland OR
Another anecdote to the pile: I moved to Portland in 2001, didn't have anything solid(technical field) lined up, got a temp administrative job that I ended up in until 2004.
But I have shifted technical jobs 3 times since 2004. Luck? Others in the same field have had similar results in the same time frame. Web / graphic design friends seem to have to look longer than pure tech. Should I need to look for another job right now I don' expect I would have to be looking for... [more]

What was this weird phone call?
This could be a practice of a shifty creditor that I've seen when looking up unknown numbers that call mye cell(from cda's website or whocalled.us).
Basically said creditor will call and just leave the message "By continuing to listen you acknowledge you are '. Or if the creditors actually do make contact with a person claiming to be who they are looking for they will re-age the debt they are attempting to collect on.

Also, we're Latin Kings.
I've been traveling weekly down to Burbank for a little more than a month now. It looks like there's quite a few nice little neighborhoods all over the place. There was a 2 bedroom house with a shack out back with 1 & 1/2 bath in a nice neighborhood(near a school) for $700,000. If that gives you any idea of the market.
But for ethnic food(I need it!) and theaters there's "downtown" Burbank. I've found a nice breakfast greasy spoon, an Armenian joint that... [more]

How does a Roland MC-505 stack up against a TR-808?
I am an owner of the MC-303 since and still use it when I need a live drum track that I can fiddle with in between sequenced tracks/samples. My cohorts were owners of the MC-505 for a few years and I had plenty of face time with it. I've also had plenty of face time with Rebirth and Reason.
Go with the piece of hardware. The 303 is severely limited but the 505 has way more 808 samples that can be jazzed up with the multitude of on board effects. Real time 'bass boost',... [more]

automate this task, please
Being a Perl geek I'd use it to grab all of the document file names from the directory structure(module File::Find). Object returned back from File::Find would be processed similar to the MS Word document extraction process detailed here. Once you get the whole document extracted in to a variable you could then convert the variable in to an array(split by line seperators) and then the information you're looking for, as long as it's absolutley standardized should be in the identical array... Don't wanna rock it 'til the wheels fall off
In bkeene's picture it looks like I still have #12 with that little bit of #10 poking out where what I'm calling the lug cap( shiny thing) is missing from. What's the better term for that thingy?
I have not taken the hubcaps off, so that's probably why this isn't obvious...I guess I could..but I can clearly see the #12 without doing so.

FYI I had a gearhead friend look at it, took the hubcaps off and we noticed that I've actually got mismatched lugnuts, which I never noticed before yesterday and thought I used to have ALL the shinier lugnuts rather than just a few shiny ones and the rest purely functional. Mostly my stupidity in freeking out about the status quo.
After we confirmed it's okay to drive I brought it to a tire shop which confirmed everything was cool as far as the wheels not coming off,... [more]

Outlook sucks.
Outlook has everything you need to mimic GMail's best features, tagging and search "folders" based on those tags. This leaves all email's in your main Inbox, like GMail.
Should work with at least Outlook 2003.
Set up rules to assign Outlook categories(GMail's tags) to an email on receipt, either based on subject, or sender, etc...
Set up Outlook search folders based on those categories.

Engagement Smuggling
I smuggled my fiancee's engagement ring from Portland, OR to Italy in the tiny little cloth purse the jewelry store gave to me. I too was worried about security busting me.
I just kept the tiny little zip up purse in a zip up pocket in my jacket, placed the jacket on the conveyor belt and no problems. Cross-country and cross-atlantic.

A long TCP tuning question
I'm just n'thng the hardware limitations keeping you from seeing "real" gigabit speeds.
I tested NIC drivers for a NIC manufacturer for your various Open Source operating systems. I'd only ever see close to real gigabit speeds on the 2 processor hyper-threaded machines with speedy BUS architectures.
A lot of tinkering needed to get to these close to gigabit speeds were jumbo frames(max frame size) you'd need a switch that you could... [more]

One of the other things I remember with Jumbo frames on this manufacturers is that the drivers / silicon would handle jumbo frame sizes up to 16kb's. Competitor cards / switches we tested with for compatibility were only configurable up to 9kb jumbo frame size.
Depending on the manufacturer, you still may only be able to get so close to gigabit speeds even with a smoking system. This all depends on if the gear can handle it, and if the driver has support.... [more]
