Of course, the frames are probably made from Chinese toothpaste...
I ordered a ~$8 pair from Specsonthenet.com a while ago, and while they didn't fit my head or my look so well, I knew they wouldn't when I ordered them. It was a lark, and I planned only to use them for (very low peril woodworking) safety glasses if need be.
When my expensive (well, Sam's Club) glasses broke last week I had to resort to wearing those cheapie ones, and once the friendly people at Lenscrafters adjusted the temples for me I could comfortably wear them for... [more]

thanatopsis: I have some of those cards. It was the ugliest game I ever saw, with cards that looked like they were color copied from bad inkjet printouts. The mechanics were dull, relying far too much on trivia and far too little on humour.
To set up the game players were supposed to take a bunch of cards from both decks and put them face down on the table in a setup vaguely resembling England. What a laff riot, eh?

Isn't this what I read about in the book Blink? In that going through the list has a tendency to make me feel happier or sadder or walk faster or slower?

By which I mean to imply that some of us feel badly afterward because of the test itself, not particularly the results.

I caught this on the way over to Hong Kong. It is a testament to my total being-out-of-it-ness that it took me watching the film at least twice before I realized it was a dub.
That, and them talking about "getting loved" all the time.

The Love Bug remake is already done, sort of. It was a Disney channel project and starred Bruce Campbell, if you can believe that.
As for a remake of Seconds, I am very, very afraid. I'm not a fan of the new Manchurian Candidate and I'd frankly just like to see those films left alone.
Then again, aren't we due for another * Body Snatchers or another... [more]

Red Film, Blue Film
If you strip away the connotations we've given it, the word "conservative" can easily mean "wanting to keep things the same" and to make a movie glorifying what's going on, even exaggeratedly so, could well fall under that more-of-the-same idea.
Or not, since there aren't *that* many marionette movies out there.

I hate to say it, but that Daffy Duck looks kinda cool. Take a look at the single bad image we've seen, though, and think back on other conceptual art you've seen.
If you haven't, go check out a good animated DVD, like (not to start another war) the Clerks cartoon. Look at how the characters went from quick pencil sketches to the finished, Korean-powered animation, changing a little and a lot along the way.
Wait until they make... [more]

If they really want to do this right, they should offer a rebate of the movie ticket against the DVD price. (If it weren't such a crap movie,) they'd get higher box office and higher sales numbers.

Is it just me, or does the headline on the ESPN page to which gimonca links look a little too fuzzy? Is it the years of browsing sites without anti-aliased fonts that have made me accustomed to the horror that is non-anti-aliased text?
As near I can tell it's a nifty hack, but if it matters so much to the pointy haired types just specify the font and install it on their machines for them.

I believe there's a line in the Gospels that goes something like "render unto Caesar what is Caesar's" and so forth.
Isn't "Christian" is a follower of Christ's teachings and whatnot? They surely can't all want to wear ugly robes with commandments on them and worry about two words in the Pledge of Allegiance.

I may be in the minority here, but I don't like cereal. I haven't eaten it since I was ten or so when my parents force-fed me a bowl of soggy Sugar something or others (whatever Sugar Bear advertised).
I prefer more traditional breakfast foods like flapjacks and eggs and whatnot, but anyway, this is a great idea. I won't go there, but if I could invest a tiny portion of money in a place like that I might consider it.
Just don't ask me to eat there.
