MeTa post: Hong Kong meetup
And count me in, obviously.
posted to MetaTalk by sleslie at 7:25 PM on June 2, 2008
A think a few meetup records were broken:

1. first meetup with a baby.
2. first meetup where visa runs via hydrofoil boat to Macau were proposed and would have been part of the meetup. Did you New Yorkers ever take the party to Atlantic City?

MeTa post: AskMe on Cat and Girl
The 15 year old inside of me has always been astonished that most of the world doesn't eat a proper breakfast. Proper meaning anything from a British fry up and its colonial variants to milk splashed over corn flakes. It's so obvious and, well, correct, but they're all "kimchi and rice" or "dim sum and a coke" or "non toasted bread and a strong coffee" or "cheese" or "let's reheat what we cooked for supper and make new rice in the rice cooker" or... MeTa post: HK meetup
A self-dialogue? Like. you want me to mutter to myself about...

...the cost of chickens at the wet markets? $42 HKD / 斤。Screw that, I'll start my own chicken farm by building a coop atop the air conditioner just outside the apartment. That'll show those bastards.

...the abundance of 7-elevens in this city?

...Shenzhen as the new wild west, despite the lack of visible horses? But, for the full experience, you gotta get... [more]

That looks like it. I guess we'll wait a bit longer and, Etaoin, I'll send you a MefiMail on Thursday to see what's up. At the very least, you can tell me places to go that don't have $50 HKD Coronas.

languagehat, apologies. Next time I'm in Ulan Bator, I'll set up a meetup and have myself a rousing bout of self-dialogue.

MeTa post: A callout... to SHINE! [SFX: twinkle twinkle twinkle]
FPP on the little-known but very influential R&B scene that thrived in ancient Egypt's Middle Kingdom (11th-14th Dynasties). All I know is that it started when Pharoah Amenemhat the First founded his new royal residence near Memphis.

Extra points for YouTube links with good audio.

MeTa post: Paris Meetup?
I'll be there. Anyone else? I missed the London one in Green Park (they moved it to a rainier day), but this one I'm planning to go to. Anyone else?

one of the densest areas on the posts graph < is ethereal bligh's> little cadre of April Fools. Not that I've contributed much to that.

If I were adding notation, I'd call that area the EB Band.

Wait, this is true? The Republicans and the Democrats wern't assigned colors before 2000?

Seriously, my mind is blown. I just assumed that, like Canada, it was always so.

What was the reasoning behind the color assignations?

Happy 6, folks!

Has anyone yet created a viable shorthand way to refer to this decade? Civilization should really get that project started.

What kind of a city is Ypsilanti? My company's got some sort of a factory down there, and I've known *of* Ypsi for 5 years strictly as an abstract concept. Over the years, I've obtained information that has led me to believe that actual people inhabit this area, and there is a civil entity of sorts beyond the ephemeral factory to the south.

Just asking, I'm in no position (career-wise) to actually go there.

I think i'd agree w/ quonsar on this one... the only time that this is useful is when you're trying to be be all cute with the HTML entities. If you're just using text like 95% of the comments, it's only displaying the same conceptual information in two seperate places.

A user interface idea: when the archived posts are viewed, could the previous link be on top of the page instead of at the bottom? When I tried this out, that was the first place I looked when I wanted to go back to the previous screen of posts. I don't know why... perhaps because I view the posts as a list that is to be scrolled through?

Not a request, just an observation.

andrew: "previous" refers to "previous page", and actually means the newer posts.

I'll shut up now and not confuse everyone. It's quite obvious what is going on when you use it.

This is kinda small... and very Winnipeg-esque in its execution. Next time, we should join up with (gasp) fark or whatever to get some bodies.

Anyways, if 7pm at the Toad works for WD, it's a go.

You could try this tool... might make it more user friendly. I don't use netscape, so I can't vouch for it.

I use mozilla, so I "grepped", (or used the XP search dog) for files containing "stavrosthewonderchicken". I've got cygwin, so I should of used that, but, like, that dog's kinda cute. That cache is usually in C:\DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS\NNNNNNN\APPLICATION DATA\Mozilla\Profiles\default\XXXXXXXX.slt, where NNNNNNN is your profile's username and... [more]
