I'm someone, one of far too many in this country, who has good reason to have no love for drunk drivers. That said, it's unfortunate that Heston fell into a far less openminded position on race, etc. in his later years, and he can rightly be dressed down for them. i have no love or affection for Chuck Heston over the last few years. some of the best food i've ever eaten was at a coupla scary diners in NJ.

New Jersey is clearly the home of the diner. Whenever I was out of state with the Army, I'd often suggest a diner, and everyone was at best confused, and when we found one, well, it just seemed to miss the whole point.

Just to throw in another personal example, I've been losing weight pretty successfully the past few months with pretty much no exercise, by simply monitoring intake. Now, as the weather warms up, and as I find myself about 40 pounds down so far, I'm starting to add exercise to the mix, for general health, to help keep the loss ongoing, to get a bit more muscle, etc, but I'd agree that, at least from personal anecdotal observation, the key to weight loss is watching how much you eat, not in... There's huge difference between sampling and being influenced by, IMO.

Personally. I see nothing wrong with sampling. It's a great way of creating something new, and introducing people to the works that came before. I know at least two people who have Stevie Wonder albums because of this, one introduced to him by Coolio, and one by Will Smith.

Cool link, though. I enjoy seeing how the album, a guilty pleasure of mine if ever there was one, was assembled.

If I were a musical artist, (I am not) I can tell you who my primary influences would be. Elliot Smith. Harrison. Zeppelin. The Who. Not so much, say, the Stones. I like them, absolutely, but i doubt you'd sense their influence in the overall tone of my work, lyrics, or style.

But you best believe I'd find a way to sample the riff to "Bitch" somewhere.

I think it worked fine for BSG. It was unexpected, and, notably, the lyrics may have been those we know but the music was quite different. Clearly these people are far closer to our society than they "should" be. Phones, suits, idioms, etc.

The edit/music video cited at the top doesn't do justice to the actual finale , IMO.

I'd agree, but I wanted a clip that showed that the song had plot significance, and most non-edited clips on youtube were either way too long, or cut to the point where someone might simply assume that the song was strictly non-diegetic.
