My Huckleberry friend
Just what the fuck is a huckleberry friend?
Wikipedia says that it might be a reference to an earlier scene in Breakfast at Tiffany's.

To get the Real Audio files working:
Download the linked ra file
http://www.audrey1.com/grahamspage/moon_river/play-audrey.ram for the Audrey Hepburn version
Open it in a text editor. There'll be a URL pointing to a domain that no longer exists
http://grahamspage.audreyhepburn.org/moon_river/audrey.ra
Take the basename of that URL
audrey.ra
And prefix it with http://www.audrey1.com/grahamspage/moon_river/To get... [more]

Odysseus's tomb found?
...he wore a brooch
made of pure gold with twin tubes for the prongs,
and on the face a work of art: a hunting dog
pinning a spotted fawn in agony
between his forepaws—wonderful to see
how being gold, and nothing more, he bit
the golden dear convulsed, with wild hooves flying....

Intelligence in Crows, Ravens and Jays
Could this be related to the theory that birds are descended from dinosaurs? If so, they've been evolving for quite a long time.

iPhone is here
iTunes now has AAC VBR.
C_D: It ain't a proprietary jack. Calm down. Also, you really have no understanding of Apple if you hope that they'll include all that crap. Hell, they rolled their own lossless codec.

What you talkin' 'bout, Willis?!
Also, this isn't so much sick as ignorably dumb. Why be angry at something that's dumb?

Hey. What's this gmail username thing and how do I get one?
I think Google's opened up registration and that now you just have to sign up for a Google account.

Civil_Disobedient: With the official client? I don't know. Any third-party client should do it. I can log two accounts in using Adium for OS X. Try Gaim if you have Windows.

Anybody know how to run Flash as the desktop on OS X?

Answering my own question: SaveHollywood can run Flash files (and movie files) as a screensaver, and Backlight can run a screensaver as a desktop background.

I just gave that a shot. Apparently, for both our solutions, it doesn't play in the background as smoothly as it does when in the foreground. I think the upcoming version of Flash player will remedy that.

I find it amusing (because it's ultimately ridiculous) that something said 55 years ago could resonate so well, in my mind, with the present.

When the president talks to God
If I say "I hate Bush, I hate Bush, I really hate bush" and play Mary Had a Little Lamb in the background, I wouldn't call that a song.
That's just a dumb comparison.
"Effective" as political commentary. You can agree with the sentiments, but it's a trite, poorly written song that won't change anyone's mind.
At this point, changing anyone's mind isn't a motivation to be "effective".

In God We Trust
History, I believe, furnishes no example of a priest-ridden people maintaining a free civil government.
That first Jefferson quote made me think that, just like the US Government, if these pseudo-Republicans didn't like the church they attended, they'd probably find ways to overpower and change that too. With that in mind, it seems that their motives are more personal than religious - they just happen to have a bunch of friends that think the same... [more]

New? Ha. I saw that in 2002. Nonetheless, it really is all kinds of good. That's awesome that it's playing at SXSW.

How f'ed up would it be if the Sum 41 video was the forwards version of the Coldplay video? Way f'ed, I'd say.
