For too long the Internet has been crying out for a place to read poorly written and unedited ameture film reviews! No more! Enthusiast reviews of movies at the 2006 Toronto International Film Festival from regular people who have to line up to get in to movies.

In the movie
Nightwatch, in the scene where Anton comes out of the subway station following the kid, and gets hassled by the cops there's a bit of incidental music playing in the background, and my brain swears it recognizes it, but won't tell me what it is. I don't recognize anything off the soundtrack listing. Hope me?

You know those posters put up en-mass on hoardings (the plywood around building sites and whatnot). There are some
really cool ones for a certian upcoming movie I've spotted around Toronto. How can I get my grubby little hands on these? It seems like with so many printed and put up, it shouldn't be hard. Just peeling them off the wall never works.

I got a fancy-schmancy new iPod. I also have Windows XP and iTunes.
Let's say I already had all my music ripped and cover art downloaded, but the music was in .flac files and on a linux box...

How about enclosing individual comments in a div? This would make the site friendlier to things like greasemonkey (if this is considered desirable).

We will take over television studios, kidnap so-called commentators and broadcast calm, well-reasoned discussions of the issues of the day.

Detroit: city of auto manufacture, crime, Motown and...
mining? Take this with a
grain of
salt, but beneath the city of Detroit Michigan, there is a
vast underground
mine.

A questionable joke (in terms of humor, not [I think] taste) was edited out of
my post. I'm not questioning the decision, I'm wondering if it would be a good idea to email or otherwise message to the poster saying "I edited your post because..." so that we can all learn and do better next time.

Have you checked
your humors today? Not the
gunky jelly stuff in people's
eyes, the
other kind.
Are you
melancholic,
phlegmatic,
sanguine, or
choleric? Are you a salamander, gnome, nymph or sylph?
Earth, water, air or fire?
Elf, Ninja, Pirate or Dwarf? (arrrr! buckets of blood! flagons of phlegm and barrels of black bile!)
If nothing else, the theory of humors adds to one's arcane vocabulary.

This is an easy one (I hope). Had some UK'ers over for a wedding recently, they were talking about a vacation region that I'd like to know more about, but I don't know remotely how to spell it or where it is. They pronounced it Mee-ork-ah. Once I know the spelling, I suspect Google will be able to tell me all I need to know, but if you've got information or stories, please share.

How about adding some frequently used non-words to the spellcheck, for example, "blog".

If one wanted to cross the Atlantic (west to east) on the cheap, and the time wasn't really a factor, how would one go about doing that? Are there still tramp steamers?

Revisiting
this.
Metafilter is the biggest site that I can edit a page (my user page) on. I'd like to have "I am the [my name] that went to so and so school, and so and so high-school and did so-and-so" so that if someone googled my name looking for me, they could find that. However, userpages are marked NOINDEX for robots, for to stop villians from using google to harvest stuff, I assume. Given that it would be trivial to write a script to go through all the user pages and snarf anything, and given that these are The Internets, is there a reasonable expectation that an email address or other information you put on a publicly viewable page will *not* be harvested? Doesn't everyone have a spam-catcher address for this purpose?

So early last year, we were
informed that Miramax would be gouging fans as much as possible on Kill Bill DVD releases, and that a special fancy edition would come out for Christmas. For that reason, I held off buying it. Now here it is almost new year's eve and
no fancy edition. What gives?

Do you tip your building's super during the holiday season? Your postman? How much. I'm interested in practical advice on the local customs in Toronto, but stories from around the world (Hamilton, Scarbrough, Oakville, etc) invited too.

What is the "circus clown" music called? It is usually played on a calliope, it goes:
doot-doot-doodle-oodle oot doot do do
Homer hallucinates Marge singing it in the episode where he goes to Krusty's Klown Kollege.

It's another idea for rating threads/users!
Dig this. On Everything2, they have the concept of
cools. If you're very good, you can get a cool, which you can then assign to a post.
Rather than rating all threads, users, etc. Maybe everyone could get 1 gold star to spend every month (week, year, lifetime). And gold-starred posts could get a special billing?

Those fortune telling paper things kids make, sort of origami-y... there's four upside down cups that you put your fingers in, the faces have numbers or colours on them, then after a complicated "pick a number, pick a colour" game, you unfold something and an answer is revealed.
What are those called?

Let us say you are the
premier of Alberta. Let's say you made some
ill advised statements suggesting that public car insurance is the kind of socialist claptrap the forced Pinochet to stage a coup in Chile. Let us further posit that you were pursuing a degree at the time and had recently turned in a
paper (word .doc) on that very topic, and presented it in the provincial legislature to back up those statements. Would you not then want to be pretty sure you hadn't
plagiarized large chunks of your essay from the web?

Scene rattling around in my head I can't place... I saw/read/heard a movie/tv show/rock video/sand painting/book/story/radio show/erotic poem wherein someone, a bad guy I think, is talking about super heros, and he says Superman is his favourite... [something inside, could it be "more", yes, it could very well be]

Would it be possible to add usernames to the spell checker? Misspelling someone's name is insulting, and it would be nice if the Spell Checker did its bit to help us all get along.
