It just seems a little suspect to me that a generation of tech geeks have suddenly developed a deep and wide sense of empathy for the visually disabled.
Accessibility is not all about the blind people, it's about providing information in an open, accessible-to-all format. Blind people are the canaries in the (information) coal mine, being more susceptible to the usability issues presented by less-than-open information formats than fully sighted users... [more]

context-free quotes!
Yeah, that was me. No real interesting backstory or anything, just bored on a Saturday and wanted to try a couple of things out with php and apache, so I wrote a script that I could use to post interesting quotes and comments found on the web and otherwise. Nothing more than digital doodling, really...
I am surprised to find it the subject of a FPP, although I should have figured it would be found eventually by a member here considering the domain name it's at.... [more]

Yet another example of Bush "spending political capital" I suppose.

Dammit, searched mefi for "IATC" and "telecom" and found no relevant results.
Also I read MeFi nearly every day and didn't remember seeing it recently.
Down in flames with my first FPP, as seems to be typical. I shall try harder!

Financial sensibility... in America? Wow!
I got my first credit cards as a college freshman. Discover and MBNA, etc. set up little booths outside the campus bookstore, offering free gifts for signing up.
Yet we need to have a war on drugs? Credit card companies are more predatory, and affect more lives than homeboy hawking a bag 'o weed on the corner.
As for myself, my wife and I just finished paying off 15k or so in credit card debt through a credit counseling... [more]

Your e-mail address and archive.org password are incorrect. You will not be allowed to upload media until you have entered valid information.
This problem is not really a bug. If you look at the "How to register" page, you'll see that you need to also register for an archive.org account, then enter your archive.org password into your ourmedia.org profile. These error messages should then disappear.... [more]

Blog catches FoxNews.com in fabrication
Nothing surprising here as FOX News shows it's bias. What I found most disturbing about the story is that the person behind it wasn't just an intern pranking, it was the "journalist" assigned to cover the Kerry campaign for FOX.
From the link above:
As noted by Nat Hentoff in The Village Voice, Cameron's reporting "... equal[s] the standard that broadcast journalists Edward R. Murrow and Fred Friendly used to set.... [more]

The apology:
Earlier Friday, FOXNews.com posted an item purporting to contain quotations from Kerry. The item was based on a reporter’s partial script that had been written in jest and should not have been posted or broadcast. We regret the error, which occurred because of fatigue and bad judgment, not malice.
So if CBS said "we were just kidding about the (not authenticated yet not proven to be fraudulent) TANG memos,... [more]

This is no pipe dream.
That's what it's really all about, right? Buy cheap and sell high.
If the dinar were to climb to a dime, you've got two hundred thousand dollars in your closet. What if it were to reach a dollar? Or rebound to it's peak of over $3.00? Do you dare continue to keep your dinars in the closet?
An intriguing idea indeed...

Bobby Fischer Found
Was he really still being sought?
From the article:
"Moreover, it appeared last night that US customs officials had been tracking his movements in the past weeks with the hope of finally bringing him into custody."
Signs point to Yes.
