Ask post: Source of info about actual voter attitudes/knowledge.
(you mean "cites", not "sights", correct?)

given that the election season is only in it's primary and not the general, and given that this year seems to have record primary turn out, at least on the D side, I'm not sure you are going to find anything like this. At least not currently. Check back in 5 to 6 months, or even after the election

Ask post: A question that has my mind going round in circles
It also is a bit disingenuous to lump them all in the same category. There are people with DD who are truly like children, of some age, but there are plenty of others who are more like teenagers, or others who have difficulty in some area of cogitation that does not preclude them from most of "normal" life. I work with this population and the fellows I work with would be humiliated, angry and depressed to be treated like children. They all have jobs to varying degrees, some of them... [more]

Ask post: How to make my car alarm stop?
There might be a fuse you can pull to disable the alarm. either fine the Chilton book that corresponds to your make/model or call the dealership where you bought it, or look online for forums that are directed towards your car.

Ask post: Muttering : where do you cross the line?
Depends... if you do it while other people are not around, no problems.

If you do it around other people you may come across as passive aggressive, hard to understand, and annoying, people assume that if you are making speech noise you want to be heard and will strive to hear you, specifically impeding that will earn you a reputation. So you decide if that matters to you. Personally I did use to mutter to myself, especially when trying to think out loud and was told how... [more]

Ask post: A more breadifying experience
What many people here are saying is in essence you need more protean in your flour. Using bread flour instead of all purpose will help this, as well as the gluten suggestion.

I make sourdough regularly and the flour makes a huge difference on how it turns out. water in a pan on a lower rack helps the crust (doesn't have to be a cast iron container anything over safe will surfice)

Ask post: How does pesto go bad? Will it silently kill me?
I've had pesto literally a few weeks after opening, but 1) they've been in jars not cans, not sure if the metal means anything, 2) and I think the way pesto would go bad would be by going rancid as oil ( and perhaps the oil in the nuts) is usually the only thing that would go "off" anytime soon, and even that should last a good amount of time.

Ask post: Someone I love is being hurt, can I do anything?
So... what do they do to the child when they are actually angry? A little smack on the head (if that is what it is) may be cruel but not full blown abuse, but they are conditioning themselves to accept that the head is an ok place to hit, and it'll only take one good angry punch or full blown smack to cause brain damage of some type. Physical negative reinforcement as the dominate means of correction is piss poor parenting.

I agree that children are fairly resilient,... [more]

Ask post: Why is psychoanlaysis still around?
There are plenty of people who would disagree with your basic premise here. Neuroscience has certainly grown by great leaps but there is an awful lot of inner brain cognition that remains pretty occluded, and certainly there are many people who benefit from talk therapy type help. Not sure if calling it a pseudo-science is going to get you meaningful answers as it is awfully pejorative.

Your question is a bit broad and seems to be a set up for a discussion rather than... [more]

Ask post: How do you avoid staring at cleavage?
Sexual fixating on breasts is not hardwired/instinct, it is cultural which is not saying that it isn't a strong desire, just routed a little differently.

There are cultures that are pretty blase about exposed female breasts but find other things shocking (thighs for example. Hell for the longest time in Western culture the thought of women wearing trousers was pretty scandalous and the same arguments could be made about that, yet we have moved on.

Ask post: make me an old school vegan foody for one weekend
A few random dishes

Sliced potatoes cooked in dry white wine, toped with salt and cracked pepper.

Steamed broccoli with peanut sauce

Rice noodles + fancy sauteed (olive oil) mushrooms, carrot slivers and carefully selected stir fry sauce

Stuffed peppers using seasoned rice and veg

Any number of mexican dishes as long as you are careful

In the end it is not hard as long as you are mindful of what you are doing

Ask post: Is it possible to have a normal relationship after a spouce attempts suicide?
Is there any hope? Yes, of course. Issues of Mental Illness are not addressed rapidly, but symptoms of cutting and depression can be overcome. Often it requires a lot of frustration as different meds may be tried and discarded if they don't work, different viable therapies attempted, no two people are alike, so there is no single solution that works for everyone.

Should you cut and run? I don't know, and no one here does really. We are not enough part of your life to... [more]

Ask post: The Straw that Broke the Lease
If there is threatening behavior, perhaps, you can call the police and have the roommate removed and a restraining order enacted. This of course would open a whole different can of worms. But, here again, perhaps the possibility of this happening could be worked into the conversation with the landlord, not as a (overt) threat to them but as a statement of what the situation may come to if you are not able to leave, as you feel unsafe. Depending on the person (landlord) they... [more]

Ask post: What is a better investment between Nikon D80 and Canon Digital Rebel XT and which one do you enjoy working with more?
If this is really a question of Nikon vs. Cannon it is a near answer-less question. If you really want a specific model from either then, yeah do the comparisons and go with the better outfitted/Mxps version in your price range. Both companies make really good cameras. (owns a Canon D20)

Ask post: What are some good reasons to end a relationship?
1. Bite the bullet and break the relationship off. No relationship is absolutely perfect, but if you are disinterested in him at this point that is going to get worse and turn into resentment.

2. "more inside" is your friend.

Ask post: Mmm, fresh tagliatelle...
pasta is not HARD work but it is a bit intensive, especially spacewise as it needs to dry. You don't need a pasta machine (just make wide noodles) but if you don't have a good mixer prepare for a bunch of dough kneeding, roll out thin cut with sharp knife.

I've never stored made pasta more than a day or two, so can't speak as to its longivity capacity.

Perhaps, and this is not to disuade you from making pasta, another, easier idea is to collect... [more]

I would venture Donaldson's books are not exactly "page turners", they have some strong points going for them, but they are difficult reads. (imo)

Actually, try an oldie, Alfred Bester's, The Demolished Man (wiki, might contain spoliers), was reissued a few years back. Heck of a book.
