on the plus side you got a hell of an excuse not to go anywhere you don't want to go, or to talk to anyone (in person) you don't want to talk to...
Sorry, I'm radioactive

Weekly World MeFi
It is funny, I took a break from MeFi for most of the primary season because there is just so much blogging I can read and was doing it elsewhere at the time....
I pop in and voila', same old arguments.

Criteria is interest, not location. The only caveat to that may be post in English. Otherwise, if there is something interesting happening in some small mud village in the middle of the Amazon and there is a link documenting it, post that baby.

I'm guessing that based on your remarks here your interest was not necessarily in the sexism aspect in the primary, but that there may have been some sexism directed at your candidate.
In other words you have a clear agenda behind your posts, or at least the one that got removed.
In general it seems that posting sharply agenda driven posts have a much higher likelihood of being removed.
A really interesting FPP might... [more]

Subsite For the Election?
Yeah see, I'd totally back a PolMe subsite that had strict entry and heavy attack moderation, sometimes the political discussion here is effing sublime. Otherwise I think it would get to be like those fucking, yes I said it, fucking, comment sections that CNN and MSNBC have on their little news blurbs that end up with people sexually abusing exclamation points and yelling at one another, where thoughtful comments are like one in thirty, and god-damned methed-out, rabid, chipmunks make much more... I want to know what MetaFilter is thinking.
Sounds like a headache,
1. how would you know the results are even remotely accurate
2. Who would choose, or make the questions
3. Is there anything other then idle curiosity driving this
4. What suggests that there would be any significant participation
5. How would you make it truly anonymous, while simultaneously ensuring people vote once
6. How will this enhance the site for the better
7. How... [more]

When is Enough Enough?
the thread went fine, for every-one's information. There was little yelling and shouting, most of which managed to get ignored. I understand there was some deletions, but I don't think there was any major surgery. fourcheesemac seems to have gone on a little tirade down near the bottom, but the thing actually played out pretty well. I wish more MeFi political threads went that way.

View Only Favorited Comments?
As people have alluded to, "favorites" often times != the best, or even the most favorite comments, but act more as a bookmark that can be used any number of reasons. Reading a thread that was would be horrible. I've "favorited" things that where completely horrible because I wanted to find them again to illustrate a point. I've also read plenty of comments that speak glowingly about another comment, but which had not favorites to mark it. Mark me down for the... [more]

Are some more worthy of respect than others?
Religion is a way to express personal belief and morals. Often by removing the responsibility of that belief to an other. I have known kind-hearted good christians, and christians who I think should spend the rest of their life locked away, and they are both... christian. The postmodernism of attempting to disavow others as being non christian because they don't quite mesh up with a version held by (a generic) you is foolhardy. I know christians who are very pro-gay rights and... [more]

Raising the level?
it's so very "postmodern", things get defined as absolute when they are relative and the emotion follows. SCDB feels ganged up upon but points to glib phrases and generalizations to justify his feelings which provoke further angst in others that don't feel his compartmentalization is fair or accurate.
I'd be surprised if anyone here, on either side, is innocent. Name calling whether it is "echo chamber" or "fascist" do nothing to address... [more]

Just The Facts, Ma'am
I have to admit I tend to automatically disregard Stephen's AskMe answers as well. Which presents a 2 fold difficulty... what if a particular answer he gives is really the best answer... and those AskMe-ers who don't keep up on the Meta discussions may never really know his pattern and assign equal weight to the answers.

Just wanted to take a tiny moment and say the "amirite" phrase/word/what-ever-the-fuck-it-is makes me want to punch the screen at the sheer 12-year-old-preteenness of it all. Lord how I hate that word when used by grownups, for some reason it provokes the same response as the insipid, passive-aggressive "just kidding" end tag. something something thousand suns.... *sigh*

You know what I find kind of amusing? There where plenty of ways to avoid this whole mess, both ethical and less so, I can think of at least five easy scenarios that would have avoided this whole thing. It really was a house of cards, and if your leader can not think his way though a simple bit of astroturfing without getting caught and spanked you really have to question his capability to be in charge.

The answers given where legit answers, and the asking after additional info was also legit, his hyper-defensiveness and willful ignoring of assistance being offered resulted in a predictable fashion. Kindness is default position, not an absolute. If you act pissy your going to get pissed on. And the reason it doesn't stop with just ONE person responding is he is reacting to a community, which reacts back.

Rethinking comment deletion
I once had an entire FPP removed because of a misunderstanding. After talking with Jess, she said I could put it back... but I never did as it really wasn't that important. too many people think what they have to say is oh so important and the world would be a poorer place without their words of wisdom/humor/whatthefuckever:
1. It won't be
2. It has been said before
3. are you actually still reading this?

It was a fairly good reply to an asinine suggestion in an AskMe thread. It was removed (so I assume) because it really didn't address the original question and probably would have caused a further devolution from the main point. I can't tell you what it said, it's deleted unto the void. ave maria
