I've had this same problem on regular Safari, not mobile, when a cookie got corrupted. I dunno how to nuke your iPhone Safari cookies but it ought to be possible.

People with Down syndrome do generate an enormous cost to society. Discussing it won't make the problem any worse than it is; sweeping it under the rug will neither better the problem nor make it go away. I think this is one of the more reasonable discussions I've seen on these topics.
are they infertile already?).
Their fertility is reduced, but not absent. People with Down syndrome have kids all the time. Many of the kids... [more]

in response to all of the information presented about the societal costs of Down Syndrome, can someone enumerate the benefits
Here is one no one has mentioned: When I take steps and make choices that allow all human beings to prosper and live out their lives to the fullest extent they are able, I sleep better at night.

Adding no-index to random questions based on their perceived truth value is a path we're not going to go down.
Yeah, actually, that makes good sense. I'm annoyed to see a great thinker's name besmirched but you guys still have to run a website here. Thanks for the quick answer.

It does seem odd that you stumbled across this search phrase and happened noticed that Ask Metafilter ranked so highly.
You don't try to answer many AskMe questions, do you, Dave? If it's a relatively obscure topic, a well-chosen Google search phrase will always bring the AskMe question up on the first page, even if the question was posted 3 minutes ago.
I knew this would be on the Google first page when I saw the question. I... [more]

To be fair, if you were googling Jung rape, you already thought some Jung (Korean or Swiss) was a rapist.
No, actually, this is wrong. CG Jung wrote quite a bit about the psychology of rape.

This is the thing about raving nutbars, they can sneak up on you and involve you in a discussion. Really too bad. Ought to be discussed - maybe forbidden. Another cup of tea, please, and a saucer for my poodle.

You people are all idiots. Brandywines are crap. Mortgage Lifter and Black Krim are where it's at, and Mr. Stripey grows a bunch of bulls. Do you really think Alan Greenspan lowered rates for 6 years just so you could grow your goddamn Aces and Early Girls and Better Boys? Personally, I welcome my new heirloom overlords.
Yeah, Stewriffic is right, this wouldn't work.

The reason I do it is because I like to drop down an answer that has the IKKYU2 STAMP OF APPROVAL on it.

Also because I like answering questions.
And drinking margaritas. I like that too.

Stinking of gin...
The Harvard dining halls used to serve ale during the 19th century, and at that time it wasn't uncommon that 14-year-olds were enrolled in the college. I'm going to go out on a limb and say that alcohol in the University setting isn't the major problem here; it's fucked-up societal attitudes about responsibility, youth, education, and alcohol in general that stirred up this particular shitstorm.
Along with the desire to nose into everyone's business. That sucks too.... [more]

This is the first time I've ever really thoroughly disagreed with a mod's deletion of my comment. I spent a good deal of effort trying to express myself as clearly and as helpfully as I could, offering a perspective that, as a recent customer of lawyers and as a member of a boarded profession myself, I thought might be useful.
That perspective was deleted, because, as near as I can tell, it might have been contrary to what the poster wanted to hear.... [more]

Viomeda, as you surmised, I am well aware of the guideline you transcribed.
I find it to be one of the most flexible, subjective, interpretable-in-every-way guidelines that I have ever seen. Let's just take an example:

How often is often? Once a year? Once an hour? Once a minute? Ten times or more a minute? Enough that the teacher notices?... [more]

No patient is ever allowed to bring another physician's diagnosis or syndrome into the examining room with me. If I accept another physician's diagnosis unquestioned, what is the point of having me do my consultation? What could I add?
My patients of course may bring their concerns, symptoms, signs, and complaints to me, and I will do my best to understand them and figure out an effective treatment.
I don't object to Tom Cruise in the... [more]

Caddis, man, it occurs to me that maybe you have ADD, or think you do, because you seem to have had trouble understanding what I said. I don't think that everyone labeled as ADD is retarded. However, I've seen kids mislabeled with ADD when the appropriate diagnosis would have been 'mental retardation'. I've seen people mislabeled with ADD when the appropriate diagnosis would have been {a whole host of other things}. And I guess I just don't know what ADD could be.... [more]

Viomeda, some of your other questions are hard questions. Psychiatry is obviously the least advanced of all the medical disciplines - at least that's obvious to me. When constructing a nosology - a classification of disease - I want a nosology that allows me to group like patients together for the purpose of being able to study them as fellow-sufferers of a unitary disease entity.
Koch's postulates accomplished this for the field of infectious disease. If Joe Blow has... [more]
