The car-booting post would be a great post if the description were accurate. But it's not.

As far as I can tell, they didn't "go off the deep end, booting nearly everyone's car in the community," the media did not "[become] involved" and we did not "become witness to a business owner suiciding his own business."

I agree that for more serious situations, such as people accused of a crime, or people in situations where thousands of dollars or more are at stake, getting real paid-for advice from an attorney is essential, and I think providing legal information in such cases is counterproductive.

I think it's more difficult too. The vast majority of people would not be capable of doing it even with training. Certainly it would be far fewer than the number of kindergarten teachers. That's more than just scarcity.

As for importance, I'd rather not bash other people's professions as being unimportant. To be honest, I think the world needs both science professors and kindergarten teachers, and would be a worse place if we lacked either.

Good point, stavros. I think of the "removed at poster's request" as a courtesy, and I think that in many cases it's fair for it to not be totally removed. After all, the poster caused others to put their efforts in answering the question, and they certainly didn't request the deletion. Perhaps this should be made clear in the FAQ.
