MeFi post: Richard D James makes me freak out a little bit
With the greatest of tender love and care, hyperizer, that probably wasn't worth your time posting.

MeFi post: Are you ready for some Dominoes!
Televised poker is a guilty pleasure. Actually quite high on an uncomfortably long list of them.

Dominos.... maybe I'll get into it next season.

Why not the top 90% of consumers?
To be honest, something better than a degenerative virus would be preferable, but I can understand the optimism. So what if the last 10% get destroyed too?

"The four horseman of the apocalypse (conquest, war, famine, and death)"
yeah, where did that come from? "Conquest" as harbinger of apocalypse seems a little unfair as implies that some side wins.

And, as I recall, they don't.

MeFi post: Christine Chubbuck
I'd never heard anything about this, and given the amount of cultural nodding I'm surprised.

Guilty or not, it's a shitty thing to destroy a man so completely that he feels the only positives arrive on his death. What happened to the "medieval" Judge Muir and his extraordinary sentences?

"Hooray! I've been saved by the bad guys!"
How thrilled would you be?

I would think that the best aspect of this for the freed hostages is that the captors were not shot, however being aided by a tool of aggression wouldn't sit well with many pacifists, I don't think.

The Times report reminds me that the organisation has previously requested no military assistance in instances of kidnap. How much of this was humanitarian,... [more]

"The rest of us in CPT are also grateful to all those who worked nonviolently and who prayed fervently for their release – religious leaders and soldiers, team-mates and government officials, partner organizations, friends, family, children, women and men all over the world. We are particularly grateful that no one was injured in this rescue operation."

MeFi post: What hope hath man / who takes up arms / against h'brother / for space only?
Nnnnnnnnnneeeeeeeeeeerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrd.

Also tabs, width:2.

Being a MS droid, the only thing I found of use in Linux editing was emacs' auto-indent which does (very nearly) exactly what I would have. I don't know which methodology it uses, I don't care; it works well, it's predictable and it's useful. As a programmer, that's really all I want.

Arguments about creating emptiness and the representations thereof are best... [more]

Boys, boys, boys; there's plenty more empty space outside, why don't we all just put down our editors of choice and go experience it?

dgaicun, we're not opposed to your intended links (well, I'm not), but the site host is refusing to allow direct links to the images you want to highlight. Instead of classic nudes we're being given some lovely young ladies being dealt with in a very backwards manner.

Not that there's anything wrong with that sort of thing, except in some states, IANAL.

Trust me, trying to remove this would be good for your profile.... [more]

When is the match-up against Gojira?

Will they be marketing smaller versions to children for bathtime? And on which night will these smaller replicants be mysteriously activated, when all are asleep, puposed to murder or inhabit us; sliding, serpentine, into our ears and noses; the fatalities discarded as the weaker chaff; survivors' lives directed by the "master's" commands; humanity set one against another across the divides of merchandising and... Absolutely, underline this point.
How goddam attractive does a guy have to be before the entertainment press takes notice of a foreigner? Obviously the acting isn't going to help, because he's speaking Spanish, ergo it's of no interest.

I realise that, if he does get picked up, he'll be lost to us for a while in a foggy maze of remakes and relationship comedies with Sarah Jessica Parker, but when he's rich and popular he can fund his own quiet intensities... [more]

"Is it even possible to post something on Metafilter anymore without someone questioning its worthiness as a post?"

You're frustration is laudable, even merited, but you may have expressed it in the wrong thread. This one is about a 13 second video of someone playing table football.

Livingstone's statement in response at the time. (Protocols linked to it above)

It's worth reading just bit of it, because the London newspapers in question are a bunch of cunts and their reporters do harrangue members of the named classes incessantly.
As it turned out, Livingstone had had quite enough because he was being pursued by a member of the anti-gay press at a party for his gay ex-politician friend, he responded in anger... [more]

Katee Sackhoff is certainly the best thing ever to have been associated with Battlestar Galactica, save the voices of the original Cylons.
This video is the best thing to have emerged from the dust cloud of desperate re-imagining that surrounds DC Comics, just so long as you don't forget to mute it, and look away for long stretches.
