Butterfly - is just a sweet little Russian cartoon (with subtitles) (and foxes). I seem to get a little speck of something in my eyes when I watch it for some reason.

Do a curly-haired person's curly hairs all (or nearly all) have the same chirality (i.e., left-handed coils or right-handed coils)? Does it vary from person to person?

Darker Projects
has a bunch of original audio dramas in the sci-fi, horror, and suspense vein. Think of it as your local community audio-only theatre, or not-actually-old-timey old-time radio.

Gmail Redesigned
is a really slick CSS makeover for - you guessed - Gmail. It uses the
Stylish Firefox add-on. (So yes, this is something you would need a computer, firefox, and gmail to care about.)

The Making of The Pentultimate
- a beautifully obsessive documentation of modeling, casting, and assembling a "deep cut vertex turning icosahedron", or put another way, the path from 820 fiddly little bits to an elegant 32-piece mechanical puzzle.

Rocks 'n' Diamonds
for some Friday puzzle-game fun. Described as "in the tradition of" Boulderdash and Sokoban, it's actually a superset of both, and you can waste tons of time playing all the old familiar levels or
tons of others. (It's a quick download, for linux/os x/the other thing.)

Anyone good with GAP? I've defined a largish permutation group and would like to make a tally of elements by cycle type - how many of each cycle type occurs in the group. Possible? Trivial? Use something else instead? Oh, and where's the
right place to ask GAP questions?

If you could use a great big free handbook of discrete math and algorithms, Jörg Arndt's
fxtbook wants to be your friend. Plain text
table of contents to whet your appetite.

Another little
bass-and-
vocal 4-track oddity; just a common story that everyone's probably seen unfolding at some point.

Loopy, mostly off-the-cuff, more-or-less-zero-production bass-and-vocal thing? Primusoidal TomWaitsishness with the slop cranked way up? Lyrics and vocals courtesy of
this guy over here.

Art Deliverance
- Alex Klochkov's gallery of abandonment from the Soviet Union. There's next to no explanation of the photos, unfortunately. Indirectly via
Retrospectacle's post about the
brain lab.

I have a moderately-sized pile of papers (say, several dozen) in front of me. What's a quick way of getting them thoroughly shuffled by hand? I am familiar with lots of shuffling algorithms, but they don't work well by hand, and techniques like riffle shuffle that work well with small, stiff cards don't work well with standard sheets of paper.

FillCell
is a sort of graffiti wall of mini-posters drawn with very simple tools (to impressive effect, in some cases). Flash - drag the background to see more of the wall.

Mostly acoustic strumming. Maybe the simplest song I've ever written - but I like it, for a' that.

It think it's been asked before, but I'm asking again: may we please have a mechanism for dropping a thread from our
recent activity page? One comment, and you can be stuck with a thread for-seemingly-ever. And the longest-lived are often the ones you least want hanging around.
