Music post: Punch 'Em In The Dick (NSFW lyrics)
Yeah, OK, I was all going to be too cool to like this but my cool gave out somewhere around the Dalai Lama.

Music post: Concrete Creeper
Yeah, that's me. Hilariously, though, I can't figure out how the hell I played certain parts of it.

Music post: Insect Song
This is quite an old thing that the vocalist recently turned up with and I had forgotten about (also the one I posted yesterday). I'll try to hook you up with some more turbofolk soon.

Music post: Splitting Ring
We are primitive inside
All our roots have come untied
What a shame we can't perceive
The way the splitting ring divides
They have fallen all apart,
The many factors of our art
No hope for peace between
The splitting ring and shattered heart

If we all but close our eyes
Let our nature stabilize
We may yet fit in between
The splitting earth and shattered... [more]

Music post: Story Yet Untold
crazyray, I didn't have any particular Tull in mind to compare it to and certainly wasn't thinking about that when I wrote it. Just in hindsight the structure and some of the guitar melodies strike me as Tull-like. I sure do like Only Solitaire, though, so I'm cheered you mention it.

There must be some perspective
From which it all makes sense
The images resolve themselves,
The knotted parts dissolve themselves,
And certainty emerges from our fragile evidence

Or perhaps from any side
The picture looks the same
The shadow of occlusion
Meaning more than mere illusion
An intrinsic, deep obstruction that we cannot hope to change

I... [more]

Music post: Entre chien et loup
Yes, literally "between dog and wolf"; idiomatically, the time between light and dark - twilight, or dusk; a bit more figuratively, anything poised between two different natures.

The music isn't really very major key, so - at the risk of telling you what you're hearing - I'd guess the "happy" impression is mostly due to the drum patterns. The verse riff, for instance, is pretty much right out of the Black Sabbath stable. But the harmonic vocabulary... [more]

Another night in winter, another wolf in song
Another hungry hunter wonders where does he belong
There's fire in the village, there's a place that's dry and warm
But he cannot sell his freedom just for shelter from the storm

He stands alone in the wilderness and wonders
Reliving days you would never, ever endure
Between the dog and the wolf he is frozen
Between the sea and the light of a far distant... [more]

Music post: Yes & Amen
Something pulled the compass wrong, somehow we got lost
In a wonderland of lovers' songs, our selves in leaping fountains tossed
A child with a mirror came flashing danger's light
for the sake of weeds in summer grain
for spears' points and wolves' teeth
for long fangs sharp and white

It is night
Now the soul speaks
loudest and longest
The poets tell their best... [more]

Well, let's see, it was a two-man job together with a long-time friend and old bandmate. I guess the process more or less started for real mid-Sunday afternoon, with me working out riffs & arrangement against the vocals. We put down scratch guitar and bass against a click, then fit a first-draft drum track to that, which ran a bit past midnight Sunday, with an hour or two taken out for me to cook dinner for my buddy & his wife & her brother. Late next morning we put the guitars... [more]

I don't know if I have the right address. I'm suspicious, 'cause none of them ever replied to any of my marriage proposals.

Music post: Seven Sisters
In the time of Matthias, in the raven's years
They were six, the sisters, the keepers of the spheres

There was one for earth and heaven
One for man and beast
One for hearth and harvest
The conceiver of the autumn feast
There was one for thought and reason
One for the unknown
One to turn the seasons
But the six were six alone

In the vale of the Tisza... [more]
