The parents had quite a party and they're leaving the world in a shittier shape than they found it. Spotting junior a few more years in the house or some extra cash isn't a big deal.

15 Mistakes Designers Make
I don't know why designers think they are one of the few professional artists who can just be completely oblivious about their mediums.
(hysterical designer voice) It looks fine on my computer, WHY CAN'T YOU JUST DO THAT?!

Wow, this is political correctness gone mad.
No, it's not. For the longest time, movies and tv seemed to portray black people as needing white people to have a family, relationship, job, what have you. To have Disney make a big deal about this being the first black princess and then not make her love interest black sounds naive and somewhat insulting. They're just opening themselves up for backlash from the black community and black men in particular.... [more]

Well, I always found it insulting when black people on TV only dated other black people, in those teen drama/comedy shows like "saved by the bell", especially since there would usually only be two black characters, so I would prefer they do an interracial relationship.
I readily admit that there is a fine line. Black characters shouldn't be confined to only dating other black characters, 'cause that's just petty and unrealistic, but... [more]

But they didn't dare make them lovers--the outrage from the African American community would have been too much. Why?
Because the black family has history of being torn apart, abused and shitted on in America, yet surviving, even if somewhat damaged and seeing that separation in the media, even if it's innocent, just opens up those wound. That history is going to go away just because Will Smith is big name movie star.

Is the right tone supposed to be "Hooray we have a black princess, but only as long as she stays within her race."
No, it's supposed to be "Hooray, we have a black princess and look she didn't have to go outside of her race to find love as has been widely depicted for decades. It's perfectly ok and natural for black people to be in a relationship."
Interesting mental experiment: can you come up... [more]

he could bear to wait no longer
While police asked people to back off so that they may do their job, people hollered back "we're going to be late to our jobs because of this". No sympathy.
I'm not sure there should be. The person is dead and they chose to be that way. There's nothing that can be down for them, you're still alive, so you might as well get on with the business of living.

This assumes that the passenger's response would have been different had Henrik accidentally fallen in front of the train.
Should there have been a different response in that? Dead is dead and people can't stop for every unknown dead stranger otherwise no TV shows would get made.

Watchmen Trailer is Up. It's not good.
In principle, I dislike the idea of adapting comic books into movies. Comics are their own particular media and film can not duplicate its strengths.
That said, I got chills watching scenes from one of my favorites comic books come to life.

The lack of comments here is akin to the later Apollo landings -- they got so "commonplace" that people began to lose interest.
At least in America, people are probably more interested in food and gas prices. That and NASA historically doing a shitty job of making this stuff look interesting to the general public.

Not a one of us is perfect, but instead of handling our own issues, the majority just want to rag someone else, because it's oh-so-easy.
No, we want to rag someone else, because it makes our own issues seem not as big.

Superman vs. Batman is always an interesting matchup.
Depends on the terms of the matchup. I know lots of people think Batman will usually win, but that's always sounded silly. Hell, he can fly, giving him a huge advantage, can't be easily hurt and has offensive capabilities. Bats would be toast

—Bruce Wayne to Clark Kent, The Dark Knight Returns
Doesn't count, since Bats got Green Arrow to shoot the kryponite at Sups, so Bats had help, see.
It that specific matchup, where Batman has specifically planned the matchup for years and gotten hold of some kypronite and someone else who could deliver it, and a robotic suit and Sups is arrogant and lazy with his power, while trying not to hurt Bats whom he feels sorry for... [more]

Batman's networking savvy is one of his skills, Brandon.
Got that. But if we're going to argue who would win in a matchup and then let Batman bring in whoever, that's really not a matchup, is it?
If you want to call that unconventional thinking and a sign of Batmans tactical brilliance, that's fine, I'm not saying Batman could never beat Superman, just that it would be highly unlikely.

Because Batman's freaking cold.
Yeah, but everyone knows that and the story in Dark Knight clearly indicates that there was a major falling out and Sups clearly knows that Bats hates him.
I get that the entire story is about Batmans brilliant craziness, methodical planning with immense resources at his disposal. I just don't buy it. Sups would have known not to screw around with Bats and just take him... [more]

Death of a Pig
Here's the part where the author kills a pig.
The bullet had to pierce the pig’s thick skull to stun it. The shot’s angle and position are everything. If you drew an X from each ear to the opposite eye, I was aiming for the small depression that lay in the middle.
Even at point-blank, getting in position to shoot a pig is a dance with an unwilling partner. I had the added trouble of working up the nerve to pull the trigger. You have to... [more]

'Rejected' Dark Knight script
I like Michael Bay. He doesn't pretend to be anything than what he is (nicely shot, quickly cut popcorn) and delivers exactly that. It may not be your cup of tea, which is fine, but hatin' on the man for doing what he does seems silly.

There's an entire commentary track with the "science advisors," a NASA employee and a former astronaut, who tried to make the movie as scientifically accurate as possible.

Michael Bay makes not just fun movies but deeply stupid ones.
Nah, he just doesn't sweat the details, like plot holes, science etc, and yes, I'm serious when I say that. He's going for big drams and if those details get in the way, Bay is like "Screw THAT". Which is fine, IMO. He makes money, puts people to work and I walk out feeling like I got exactly what I was looking for. That's a plus in my book.

But the result of him not sweating those details is a deeply stupid movie.
To YOU, of course, while others fine it quite entertaining, because they're not getting hung on whether this or that is real. Seriously, why go to the movies if you're expecting reality? Christ, it's all fantasy, why not have fun with it and put sound in space and space shuttles dodging asteroids through space. It looked spectacular.
