I can't give my phone what it needs, and it's ruining our relationship.

I dropped my phone, but it turned itself back on once I slid the battery back in properly. I though all was well. However, it is now demanding a PIN code and won't let me use the phone without it. I'm not sure why it wants one, and I would give it one if I had one, but I don't have one and don't know how I would find one. Can you help? It's a Blackberry Curve, if it matters.

Help Me Pack My Bags With the Colonel's Special Blend of Herbs and Spices

Help me pack my bags. I'm anything but a seasoned traveler, and now (insert excitement emoticon) am headed to Berlin for three months. Please tell me about what I do about the different voltage thing they have over there and what it means for my cell phone charger. Tell me if I can put my American health insurance on hold because of the glories of the European welfare state. Tell me how and if Germans tip. Recommend the best carry-on suitcase/bag ever.

Seeking Drugs. Online. Have Perscriptions, Health Insurance.

Hello fellow takers of any kind of medication. Can recommend a good online pharmacy for someone with health insurance and no "red flag" meds such as painkillers? The AskMe archives don't seem to yield very much.

Me Talk Pretty German One Day

I'm starting to learn German, and I love it- I find everything about the language fascinating, and making my flashcards and doing my speech exercises about how Jan liebt Sara and how das Madchen ist glucklach is the funnest part of my day. I'd like to get good at it. Really, really good. Can you help me?

Is COBRA worth it? Or is there are hidden trap?

Hello battle-scarred health insurance vets. Here's a COBRA question for you to ponder. I left my job in early November. My application with the Freelancers' Union to be eligible to enroll in their plans has been approved. In the time between the former and the latter, I had to see my primary care physician and refill a bunch of prescriptions. There's still time for me to elect to have COBRA coverage for the time since I left my job, but should I? Would that lead to the dreaded "gap in coverage"?

Help Me Hunt a Headhunter

I'm a post-Ph.D. (not computer science, alas, but history) and have decided to seek my fortune outside academia. I have lots of experience organizing and researching and analyzing and presenting and teaching all sorts of things in all sorts of contexts, and have made my CV into a resume that shows I'm not just another egghead. Unfortunately, I'm coming up empty handed after several months of a full-court press, and I'm thinking it's time to contact headhunting/recruiting agencies that might be interested in someone like me. I'd love your thoughts and suggestions on which firms to contact in the New York area.

Help Me Make it Through a Long-Ass Flight in Economy Class

Brace yourself for another iPod question. Purchased and downloaded movie from iTunes. Got all excited to watch it on the plane on my iPod. Was crushed to find that upon re-synch-ing my iPod with my iTunes, the movie doesn't seem to have downloaded onto the iPod, which I assumed it would do automatically just like it does with new music that I add to iTunes.

Help Me Fill in My Blanks

Seeking Sample Freelance Contract Suitable for Filling-in-the-Blanking. A few weeks ago I posted this and got all kinds of good advice and cheerleading (thanks to all!). It worked- I had a great time chatting up Mr. Big and they agreed to pay me what I- with bated breath- asked for. Now I need to find a contract to make it legal and am hoping one of you has a sample or suggestions on where to find one.

Help Me Figure Out if My Phone is a Boy or a Girl

Cingular has announced it will now charge all customers not using a GSM phone $5/month, beginning in September. How can I tell if my (several years old) phone is GSM? I'd ask the nice people at the Cingular store but suspect they will be too busy plying me with new fancy phones to give me an honest answer.

The Thing That Covers Your Head if You're Harvesting Rice

OtherPeoples'HatsFilter. I have to describe an illustration from the 1940s in which the "Asian" (nationality unspecified) character is wearing the kind of conical peaked hat usually seen on traditionally dressed Vietnamese peasants. I know that in the past these hats were referred to as "Saipan hats" or, more offensively, "Saipan coolie hats." Is there a more anthropologically correct and culturally accurate term for them? Thanks for any and all insight on this one.

An online history of jurisprudence, and lack thereof

Sacco and Vanzetti et al. The amazing Famous Trials website, compiled as a labor of love by University of Missouri law professor Douglas Linder, is a motherlode of information on historically significant trails, ranging from Galileo to the Amistad to Lenny Bruce. It features not only official transcripts, but also equally intriguing details such as a map of the railroad cars in the Scottsboro Boys trial, Klan documents from the Mississippi Burning case, and opinion polls related to the My Lai courts martial.
