MeTa post: History from a witness.

(BTW, Dee Extrovert's posting history is chock full o' similar greatness.)

Absolutely. Every post about her experience has those same rare qualities:

A tragic tale, related with poise and sensitivity, lacking any of the hatred and vitriol I'd have been unable to keep from it had I written it.

MeTa post: Yes we can meet up in Berlin?
Thanks for summing things up, Creasy- I'd heard the speech was scheduled for the 29th (http://www.google.de/search?q=obama+berlin+july+29&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a). Since I'll be in Naples (Italy, not Florida) the 24th to the 27th I'm hoping it's the 29th, and I'm hoping you'll stay a little later.

Tchüss!

...and wow, great site. Just what I was looking for to get me through the rest of the campaign while I'm far far away from the action.

foxy_hedgehog who found this thread on his own

Creasy, I'm a girl, remember? I even wore a dress when we met. Though I suppose that's no guarantee of anything.

My mistake, rather, foxy_hedgehog, although I couldn't tell from your profile.

...then my mistake too, Creasy- and so on, and so on...

Sorry, I'll be off to Naples by the night of the 25th. If you wind up making it the 24th I'll gladly join you.

I heart all of the above except Max and Mortiz, where I was charged 2.50 Euro for tap water a few weeks ago. However, I will not put my foot down.

I love Tristeza! Was so happy to find it while lost on my bike one Neukölln afternoon.

But anything's fine + okay, and if it need be on the 25th, then so be.

At night? At the Siegessäule? This sounds like poor stage management. We'll see....

This whole thing is becoming a huge political farce right now. The Christian Democrats and Liberal Party just discovered the Nazi-related symbolism of the Siegessäule, France and Britain are displeased, and the organisers plan a football world-cup-style "Fanmeile" with large-screen displays for up to one million people.

This is exactly what I was afraid of. I also just got an email from Dems Abroad about that announced:... [more]

MeTa post: Berlin: mich, dich, Sie, euch, und uns. Was denken wir?
That Mefite with a bar was kind enough to give me a few Berlin tips a few months ago when I was looking for eine Wohnung- I think he even put up a little ad for me over said bar. So I'd be glad to patronize his place of business.

Or grilling. Or something. The weather in Brooklyn is fucking with me as I type.

They make Thanksgiving look like dogshit. At the top of my game I am miles away from that kind of action.

After living in New York for five years, "at the top of my game" means picking up takeout instead of getting it delivered. Anything beyond that counts as true ambition.

MeTa post: Boooooooooobs.
As many have noted, the poster didn't ask for help on how to contend with being surrounded by inappropriately dressed female co-workers. It is disappointing to see how his problem- which, as he posed it, seemed to be an entirely sincere request for advice- was quickly transformed. Instead, the problem became not him but his female co-workers.

Parsing the descriptions by those who argue that women are at fault for being objectified in the workplace, it seems that the... [more]

Veronitron, I think both of us can come up with different scenarios depicting what the "leaning in" in question might have looked like, and I most definitely don't think you or I or the OP can say with certainty that it was somehow deliberate on the co-workers' part (or not). I think all of us can agree, however, that in the course of working in an office environment, at some point you are likely to lean down to give a co-worker something or talk to them about something.... MeTa post: We need to talk about this...
Just read the mentor thread. Then watched the McLaughlin video. I hereby declare my love for FourCheeseMac.

PhilCubeta, I look forward to hearing your thoughts over in AskMe on how to get my deposit back from my landlord, whether I should get a Mac or a PC, and if it's time to leave my wife-beating, drug-doing, unemployed husband. Please also weigh in on the front page on whether Hillary's presidency would be a feminist triumph, how that YouTube video suckled ass, and... [more]

MeTa post: GiveWell, or Give 'em Hell?
Over at Read Write Web, the promotion of GiveWell continues today.
posted by McGuillicuddy at 11:44 AM on January 3 [+] [!]

For the record, it appears that the poster here may be a GiveWell hack- clicking on his user name links to GiveWell's site. However, I don't know how to check IP addresses on a blog if one is not an admin (I assume it's impossible) but it's still rather odd.

This thread has taught me a great deal about... [more]

MeTa post: What will the Bhutto assassination mean for the future stability of Metafilter?
Thing is, that even with your crazy rules for putting dots on every sad thread and caring for the lovely animals and your tendency to unthinking environmental facism, I'm pretty certain that languagehat is several orders of magnitude nicer and more moral than the lot of you put together.

Fucking whining liberatards.

Funny, this sounds about as reasonable and appropriate a response as those from the chorus of "fucking... [more]

MeTa post: London Calling/Calling London.
Egads! Premature MetaTalkation. I just heard from the friend who is putting me up at her hoity-toity conference hotel that she'd already made evening plans for us during my stay, and in order to be a gracious freeloader I need to attend. Please forgive my premature enthusiasm. But also don't let it stop you from meeting up sans me.

Next time, next time, when I'm paying my own way.

MeTa post: "So well assorted were they that once there they fell into harmony like the strings of an instrument touched by an able hand."
Late to the party but chiming in- amazing, insightful, thoughtful and brutally honest comments. As someone already observed, the responses far exceeded the quality of the FPP.

MeTa post: NYC meetup - can we do some place on the west side?
I had the impression Employees Only also had a bar if folks wanted to meet 6ish *right-after-work-ish) just for drinks and kick things off a little earlier. I have tickets for a show @8 but would love to get together for a something.

Or did my skimming of the thread miss this? It seemed like meeting earlier was still open to debate, inquiry, inveighing, weighing in, etc.

Looking forward, in one form or another.

It can't hurt. And I'm currently seeking gainful employment. Email in profile if you have any left.

And um...let me know if you need a gmail invite.

Divine_Wino, let me know if that's a serious offer.

MeTa post: NYC MEETUP KTHXBI
%@! Stuck in the Bay Area till early summer. Keep missing my chance to put handles to faces. adamgreenfield is correct- the Temple Bar is gorgeous, spacious, and the drinks are perfectly mixed. I feel far more sophisticated and civilized than I am whenever I spend an evening there. But my rec. is to arrive earlier if you want any chance of colonizing a table on a Friday night. At the worst, the career alcoholics can start drinking earlier before the rest of the cast arrives.
