Ask post: Is Amazon Prime worth it?
It is worth it for the groceries alone. They have a lot of items I cannot buy locally, and the prices on many items are better than the store prices. Cumin, coriander, agave nectar - all much cheaper from Amazon.

It is also great for small items that I don't need immediately, that would normally require a special trip to a store. I needed a 4 gig flash drive for something last week. To get one at a decent price would require a trip to a store 20 miles away. Not... [more]

You can do a lot with dry ice.

If you know the why and the how of dry ice and loud noises, you will find you can do a lot of other things with various ingredients.

Porpoise - Are you just trying to be an asshole? Or are you just that much of an idiot?

If pompomtom doesn't even know what can be made legally, do you really think that mentioning nitroglycerin is a good idea?

If you don't know why you shouldn't be playing with contact explosives, you shouldn't be playing with contact explosives.

There are plenty of ways to make a nice 'boom' without risking life and limb.

Ask post: Download flash based games?
bbranden1 - No easy answer for this one. Printing is your best bet.

For anyone coming back here to look at this question later, the best way to do this is to use a proxy and look at the logs. Find out exactly which files are being downloaded. If they use relative mapping (no http://www.website.com/etc), you might be able to get away with putting them in the same directory (or directory structure) on your hard drive. If not, you can configure a local web server and... [more]

SpecialK - There is no reason to think they will not do something with the data in the future, and absolutely no reason to use real information in the first place.

So even discounting any paranoia, what is the benefit to using real information? What is the harm in using fake information?

Check cashing was mentioned by iguanapolitico. Does anybody actually do that anymore? If so, why? Is there any reason to use checks for in-person payments anymore?

While there are ways to fix this problem, you are eventually going to have to reinstall XP. Back up your data before it gets to that point.

Thirding 'you aren't a morning person'.

Even going to the gym in the morning doesn't wake me up. Some of us are just that way, and want to shoot the people that tell us we aren't eating right, or should go to bed earlier.

Seconding what I said earlier. If you really are a night person, you can ignore almost everything here. The morning people just don't get it, and they never will.

What bitdamaged said.

Don't think about bringing it up in the interview. Impress the hell out of them, then wait for the offer. Write a nice letter, or e-mail, or fax, back to the HR people, and tell them that you now know more about the job, and you are a perfect fit, but you think that your experience and the job responsibilities should command a higher salary.

Ask post: What digital camera should I buy?
If you have a local Costco, see what they have in stock. If you buy it and don't like it, you can always take it back.

I don't advocate abusing their return policy, but it is there for a reason. I bought my digital video camera and my last digital camera there, and was very happy with both of them. I researched the hell out of them first, but you never know until you see the results, so I figured buying there was a smart move.

The poster wanted some quick information, and pixel count is one of the easy numbers to find when you are buying a camera. Ask post: Yeah, what you have right here is your classic kangaroo court.
Traffic court is usually a sham. Tickets get rubber-stamped unless there is a flagrant violation of the law. Sometimes that isn't enough, and you have to pay anyway.

You probably have great grounds for an appeal. Do you think it is worth it?

IANAL, but I have represented myself in traffic court.

Just as a data point, my body is more comfortable with a 30 hour day. I automatically drift to it if I have a few days to myself. So I'm not really an insomniac, I'm just forced into being one by the rest of the world.

Sleep when you feel tired. Learn to avoid alarm clocks as much as possible.

You screwed yourself by checking one of the accounts from home. They might have poor security, but that doesn't mean that they aren't logging.

If I was called in by a company after something like this was reported, the first thing I would do would be to check all of the logs.

Did you actually check the voltage, or just for the presence of voltage? I have seen some strange things during brownouts. I have also seen lots of things die when the line is dirty (constant dips and spikes, caused by some heavy machinery in a warehouse below an office building, line finally checked with an oscilloscope).

Probably a shot in the dark, but could someone outside of the apartment have been using a lot of juice for something?

If the MTU setting is over 1400, you might need to try this command:
netsh interface ipv4 set subinterface “Local Area Connection” mtu=1430 store=persistent

Learning to cook is definitely an advantage. I started as a teenager, mostly because I didn't like most of the food that was given to me. Which leads to the next point...

To elaborate on the important point - the issue now is getting onto the ship, not getting back into the US.
