A new jug ships clean
Maybe if they put the directions on the bottom of the jug, more people would figure it out?

"an expression of truckliness"
I, for one, support this law.
For too long have we had problems with Truck Aggression. Consider how many times you've been minding your own business in traffic, only to have a Dodge Ram attack your minivan. This aggression will not stand! (man)
And every time I take the old Prius out , I have to worry about some Dually trying to hump it. For the last time! It's a Hybrid, it's not in heat. I bet that mongrel doesn't even have its papers.... [more]

It doesn’t have any kind of weight behind it, as such. But maybe that’s the irony of it.
I had a hectic day yesterday. One of those days where things just really wear on, and when you've still got 6 hours left, you want to be asleep.
When I get home, I like to wind down by reading a little. This sometimes involves metafilter. I read this post, and smiled a little, it was a meta rickroll. That doesn't happen often.
I went to sleep, comfortable, and with a feeling that everything in the world was right. I dreamed. I hardly ever... [more]

Nerd It Through The Grapevine
My old roommate and I decided to have a halloween party.
In a beerfueled state, we decided everyone should come in costume. Those that showed up out of costume would have one provided.
So, a box of black trash bags, some white rubber gloves, and some purple face paint later, and we had half a dozen California raisins running around the party.
Of course, we couldn't just paint faces. Nope. My roommate wrote on everone's... [more]

I've got a gnome on my couch
Sweet. Small world.
That WoW video is based on my old guild.
Felicia is a very sweet and awesome person.
She wrote, and directed that entire short, and it did piss some people off in the game.
I stopped playing well before this video was put out, for many of the above reasons. I like my crack to let me outdoors, thank you.

lynn: yes, those storms are common in West Texas.
It's attributed to the farming practices, and the fact that dietys just line up to take a free shot at Lubbock. I can't rightly blame them.
My elementary school was on the edge of Lubbock. We had fire drills, tornado drills, and sand storm drills. The first one involved running outdoors. The last two involved running to the biggest building (that had an industrial strength air filter).... [more]

In praise of Budweiser
A friend of mine threw a party, and didn't call ahead to get the keg. All they had left was a keg of Bud Light.
My friend, being the genius he is, put a bowl of cut up limes near the beer, hid any trace of the brand, and let the party go.
Everyone swore up and down they were drinking Dos Equuis.
Here in my corner of Texas, Budweiser is referred to as "River Beer". If you accidentally drop one while floating in... [more]

I drive a Subaru Baja.
Yes, the truck/car monstrosity.
I call it the Australian El Camino.
I wouldn't trade it for anything (except useful, reliable public transportation).
I have a few lesbian friends that concur with the Lesbaru theory, but they all swear by the Forester. Maybe it's a Texas thing? Who wants to do the demographic breakdowns of lesbaru cars by state?

Living Life With a Lethal Gene.
That article reads like my childhood.
My mother was diagnosed 14 years ago. So she started preparing. Getting all her affairs in order, going for testing, researching options.
All that time, my sister and I were constantly reminded that we had a chance at it.
At first, mom was optimistic. She hoped her kids didn't have it. She respected our decisions to not get the test, to not know, to not have that genetic shadow... [more]

She does know how it affects us. Neither my sister or I are very quiet about it.
Both of us have been to therapy, and talked about it.
Unfortunately, Mom is in a different city, so we don't see her that often.
I'll suggest the group therapy to her. She has a degree in psychology, focusing on therapy, so that's probably something she'd go for.

I had a gay scoutmaster. I didn't find out till he decided to out himself after nearly two decades of service.
Apparently he kept his sexuality and scouting pretty well separate, as people who had known him for 10+ years didn't know. Or maybe they did know, but they chose not to judge him based on sexuality, and more on his outstanding civic record with one of the largest troops in the US.

Some of the more memorable moments.
Making flash paper (flash cotton). Never worked quite as well as the original stuff, but it was still fun.

gregor-e: yep. Remember, my father was watching all of this. We were doing it all in a lab, under the hood, proper precautions and all.
It was used as a military explosive, but was too unstable (if I remember correctly).
This stuff was all under water in the lab, so was relatively safe, but I agree. I wouldn't touch the dried stuff if you paid me.

I feel strangely left out of this conversation. And not because I'm posting down on the bottom (top?) of the heap.
I'm allergic to mushrooms. Developed after adolescence, as I used to quite enjoy anything remotely mushroom related.
Then, one day, I was enjoying a rather tasty pork tenderloin with a mushroom sauce, and I felt my throat start to close off.
I saw an allergist, and sure enough I'm allergic to mushrooms.

Dr. Claw's face revealed.
I like this theory. What does DIC stand for, anyway? Maybe if we knew, we would know Dr. Claw's first name.
(Doctor Igor Claw? Ivan? Isabel?)
I'd go with Insidious.
Which would tie into a theory that this is just another vehichle for a George Lucas screenplay.
Gadget is the next jedi, claw is Darth Insidious.
