3rding madpercolator. Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark was and is amazingly awesome. I still remember the illustrations for the Wendigo one.

MeFi post: MRSA... the global medical communities dirty little secret.
Well, fuck. Not that I didn't know about MRSA already, but in addition to all the scary stuff everyone else has to worry about, I've got a full packload of antibiotic allergies which mean that I'm screwed if I ever get properly sick.

I deal with this by avoiding the doctor like the plague. I...guess it helps?

I miss beignets. Nothing, not even funnel cakes, compare to a good heaping pile of fresh beignets.

MeFi post: Bake the Hall in the Candle of Her Brain
Oh goodness.

I grew up with this movie. My siblings and I would regularly sing, "It's ever so jolly just being a frog" in the car. And make jokes about popovers when someone was being particularly obstreperous.

I've been searching periodically for it to come out on DVD rather than video, but this is good enough.

Thanks for finding this glorious piece of my childhood.

(P.S. We had the Mary Martin Peter Pan too.)

MeFi post: March of the Librarians
Thanks for the post! I sent it to all of my librarian and librarian-wannabe friends. And kept trying to see if I could spot any that I knew...no such luck.

MeFi post: Cold, Wet, and Doubly Up in Your Crotch.
DU: Doesn't work for me either. It just feels like I'm rubbing my nose with crossed fingers. I even tried closing my eyes.

I probably look terribly silly right now. *rubrubrub*

Please don't answer that.

MeFi post: Kansas Schoolboard affirms Intelligent Design
It's the changing the meaning of science that blows my mind. Way to give reality the finger, guys.

Also, check this response from Janet Waugh (quoted in article) to the FSM theory:

Thanks for your comments about the Flying Spaghetti Monster and all the supporters who have sent their support to members of the Kansas Board of Education. I am supporting the recommendations of the science committee and am currently in the... [more]

MeFi post: Why Does Archbishop Desmond Tutu Hate Our Chirstian Moral Values
I interviewed a woman for a journalism class once. She had spent a great deal of time as a journalist in apartheid and post-apartheid South Africa. She is now the head of a non-profit agency in the Northeast. I asked her if she saw any parallels between the situation in apartheid South Africa and in America today. She looked at my tape recorder, said "I don't want to answer that question," and nodded vigorously.

Just FYI.
