MeFi post: Birth of a 'Horrible' Fandom
Wow, just wow. I had no idea Dr. Horrible had taken on such a life of it's own.

The guy astounds me. Someone explain to me again why the powers that be don't have Whedon working on at least two productions at all times.

MeTa post: Let's meetup during my excursion
This is my initial route, but I'm completely open to detours, small and large. I'd love to meet some MeFites, share a bite to eat, some drinks, conversation, take a bunch photos and I might not pass up a place to stay for a night if offered (but it certainly isn't a requirement). I'll also be stocking up on goodies from my favorite cheese shop to bring with. If anyone want's anything specific from there, or Denver in general, let me know.

I'd love to visit some... [more]

Hey Tehanu, I'd let you drive it if you were on the way. Really.

Now boo_radley, where have you been? Another Denver meetup is in the works, maybe two. Come say hello/goodbye, and meet everyone. Most of them are cooler than me.

Thanks SuperSquirrel, it's appreciated. She is one amazing person. Wow, Dollywood. This will be an experience. I can't believe they have a podcast.

hellojed, it sounds like you need something to do. ;-) I found this little place online, which may or may not be worth hitting. I also found the Local Harvest Co-op. It seems like a good place to grab some provisions. I'll email you as the plans solidify.

Thanks for the recommendation Bookhouse.

lilywing13, thats a generous offer and it's appreciated. It's certainly doable, and it's not really out of the way. I could also hit Memphis if I go... [more]

lleachie, right now it does look like your a bit high on the detour scale. :-( Maybe things will change.

After a bit of searching, it doesn't look like there have been too many meetups in the larger cities that might be along the way (Kansas City, Wichita, Tulsa, Little Rock, Memphis, Nashville) I'm kind of bummed about that.

mygothlaundry, I'd be thrilled to make the drive to meet everyone in Asheville (and provide the oh so convenient excuse... [more]

notsonot, That sounds great! I hope it's not too short of a notice. The 17th (in the PM) looks like it would be the best date. I'll drop you a MeFI mail as well. Actually, I need to send several.

hey sergeant sandwich, I was curious about the name well, so I looked it up. I <3>
The name "Pigeon Forge" comes from an iron forge built by Isaac Love (1783-1854) sometime around 1820. The name of this forge referred to its location along the Little... [more]

Well donnagirl, maybe I could try and hit you guys on the way back, if there is interest. I once had the wacky idea of packing a bunch of MeFites from Denver in a car and crashing a Lawrence meetup. Maybe wearing eye patches or something.

You know, I was hoping hellojed was exaggerating for affect. *hears banjos in the background*

Mmmm frozen custard. Oh wow, check this place out.

For those interested, I met a most wonderful array of people.

I don't want to get all schmarmy, but I do want to make sure and let everyone know how much fun I had, and how grateful I am for everyones hospitality and generosity of time. Sincerely.

I am continually amazed by MeFites, online and off. A heartfelt thanks to all. *sniff*

MeTa post: -t's roadtrip and the first ever Fayetteville, Arkansas (and region) meetup.
Thanks middleclasstool. Right now it looks pretty doubtful, but I do appreciate the offer. It would add just too much to the trip back up to St. Louis. Maybe on the return trip?

MeTa post: Denver Meet Up
Nails, I still have your book. I've been worried sick that I wouldn't get it back to you before I left. My life is generally more interesting than I'd like, and I want to make sure and see you to return it soon. In other words, sooner is better for moi. Smooches. ;-)

Nails, I'd love if we could do something this weekend. My travel plans, like the rest of my life are highly unpredictable at the moment. I _may_ be leaving on the 15th for the east coast.

I talked to LFR on the 4th (I think it was the 4th). She was somewhat preoccupied with a race she was organizing, I hope it was on the 5th or 6th and not this weekend, so she can make it.

I have a propose location for this weekend, the NorthStar Brewery. It's just a couple minutes from downtown (about 4 blocks from Platte), and they have pretty respectable, inexpensive beer.

I think a couple of smaller meets is a good idea. Anyone want to nail a day and time down for this weekend?... [more]

yodelingisfun, The specified meeting place is actually pretty close to Lakeside. So stop on by if you feel like it after your dizzy from spinning around.

LFR, I hope you guys can stop by for a quick one if your not beat. I have to run down to REI later, maybe I'll run into the mister.

It will not feel like a fieldtrip, without fieldtrip.... [more]

MeFi post: Non-sucky web typography
Brocktoon, newspapers would use considerable more ink for one, but the idea is kinda silly. There is additive (transmitted) and subtractive (reflective) color models. What works for one, light text on dark background for instance, would be pretty bad on the other.

Oh, I almost forgot. That Seed Conference page is pretty sweet, but what does it look like in IE6 on XP. Unfortunately, that albatross is going to be around a while.

It is exciting to finally see the day when in the (hopefully not so distant) future where browsers are mature enough to handle type well.

drjimmy11, I indeed meant the The Author's Guild, and not just in reference to the Google situation. My apologies to anyone whose blood pressure rose because of my mistake. That was ridiculous of me to confuse the two.

As someone who has done this for years, multiple smaller fans are the way to go (imo). As far as brands, I like Vornado. They are quiet, strong for their size, easy to clean and don't look too bad (for an appliance).

Good luck.

MeFi post: Kung-Fu Bear
So I'm wondering if someone taught him to play with the stick, or he was rewarded in some way. I just can't see that behavior being all that beneficial in the wild. Well, unless the other animals actually know what kung-fu is.

The obligatory previous internet kung-fu bear link.

I'd just ditch the cream if she has some kind of issue with dairy. Your not really going to find an acceptable substitute. Check a few poached pear or apple recipes and adjust the liquid accordingly.
