SF Chronicle Metafilter mention
that is, I'd rather point my readers to actual content, not merely a chat thread.
Some people say that many newspapers and journalism schools subscribe (so to speak) to the Peak Link theory that states (amongst other things):
Links on the Internet are finite and that if global consumption of Internet Links is not mitigated an Internet crisis may develop. That is why serious journalists never link to their sources if they are just... [more]

Meetup in Victoria, BC?
I'm in Victoria (also right in downtown) but sadly, will be out of town that week. Perhaps another time for the locals....

I was at the 17 Mile House this evening. It was a bit chilly out back on the deck.

Just an fyi - Red Fish Blue Fish is a fish n' chips place that just opened. It's run out of a shipping container (and it looks pretty cool). It's really on a wharf - unless they set up a few tables outside, I doubt they have seating.
(And, if I wasn't out of town, I'd push for the Bent Mast (512 Simcoe St), which has okay food and a cool atmosphere, is within about a 15 minute walk of the Inner Harbour, has good beer, great fries, and isn't too noisy).

The Green Should Be White
As someone who usually reads the site on the fly and not logged in, I really think switching to a default white is a really bad idea. Don't make me log in to see the site as it currently is - which is unique. White is bland and, really, just like every other site on the Internet. Shoot for mediocrity (in design at least) and I'm sure you'll find it.

If I paid 20 people off the street to look at the site for the first time and tell me their thoughts, I bet I'd hear pretty much the same thing.
So, if you don't want new users, why do the opinions of these 20 non-mefites matter more than your user base? Why not just take a poll - force people to answer what color the site should be before they can make a new post or comment. Make it clear that the change would only be if they weren't logged in.... PromUpdateFilter: This post concludes my prom...
Seriously, when you reach the ripe old age of 20 and you're hanging out with some Sheila in the dorms late at night, you can play the prom story card (along with some sad, intense eye contact) to earn yourself some affection. The girl, on the other hand, will probably have to keep the story of the time she flaked out on you entirely to herself and it will just sit in her stomach like a hard black piece of coal for the rest of her life.
