Brooklyn is not New York! You might as well be living in New Jersey. It was relevant and interesting in the early part of the 20th century but has become what Oakland is to San Francisco. It's considered overseas and not yet civilized.

Diego Garcia is actually quite a bit south of the Maldives but if the waves reached Somalia with some strength, then both of them should be considerably overrun. I wonder how well those B52s are tied down.

According to the USGS Data, Sumatra and surroundings have been shaking pretty hard and often for the last 24 hours.

There are some real gems in that show.

The incest discussion is very surreal. Zappa is blamed for incest "becoming a problem in the last twenty years". Lofton seems to have an unhealthy obsession with incest.

The commercial break snippet of the offensive videos of 1986 which included Twister Sister and Billy Idol seem so quaint and silly by today's standards. All that make-up and post apocalyptic sets. So scary! Haven't any of these... [more]

I didn't realized that Christian fundamentalists had infiltrated the Indian judiciary. Why not arrest the Internet itself? Better yet, why not arrest that turtle on whose back this corrupt little planet rests?

Hopefully, they'll let him out soon. They won't be able to stand the pressure from Bangalore and the US State Dept. for long.

There is a Maxell XL-IIS labeled "Pink Floyd - The Wall", sitting at the bottom of a box of books somewhere in my storage, waiting to be analyzed by alien archaeologists 10,000 years from now. Let's hope they find a Nakamichi deck to go with it.

Great pix, languagehat. It's remarkable how the city can support 10 million people today and still retain much of that old atmosphere. The old city is roughly 9 square miles.
