Stock photography for beginners

I recently received an email asking if I'd be interested in adding some of my photos to a stock photography website/collection. What should I ask, or be thinking about, as I consider this?

Help me pay my taxes, long past the deadline

I've already paid my 2005 taxes (and on time), but I technically haven't filed. Help me figure out what to do.

the secret life of Spanish-language online booksellers

I'd like to buy a copy of The Secret Life of Plants... In Spanish. Two seem to be available, for upwards of $40. Help me track down cheaper ones as a gift for a fantastic new friend.

What should you do to be a drunken sailor?

Through providence, luck, or my ability to be completely spontaneous, I've just landed a job crewing on a catamaran headed from Miami to Panama, then up to Seattle. The catch is that I have absolutely no experience doing anything like this.

Weird knees!

It feels like the cartilage behind my knee cap is slipping out of place. I don't have health insurance. How serious is this & what's the wisest response?

cell phone debacle

Broken cell phone filter: I put my cell phone through the washing machine & it's not coming back to life. Now I'd like to craigslist/freecycle a new (used) phone, but I'm having trouble figuring out what types of phones will work for me.

Misbehaving technology!

Help me troubleshoot my printer &/or computer, which is refusing to print! I suspect it's something simple, but there's...

Hashimoto's disease

I've just been diagnosed as having hypothyroidism (probably Hashimoto's disease, though the secondary bloodwork that would confirm that isn't back yet). I'd like to hear stories/anecdotes about having hypothyroid problems &/or Hashimoto's, especially if you've tried alternative treatments (whether or not they've succeeded). Additionally, I'm looking for resources, online or off, that consider alternative treatments/dietary changes/etc as well as standard Western medical practices.

non-zen zen-ness: oh heck

I just got a new Creative Zen Nano Plus 1gb mp3 player as a surprise gift from a friend. The trick is that I'm a Mac user, and by all official accounts the two are incompatible. Help, please.

Disappearing libarry books!

Dear artists/collagers/librarians, I have a two-part question, and the first part is a doozy: I'm looking for a specific book of copyright-free clip art/etchings & I don't know the title. The second part: recommend your favorite books of copyright-free etchings!

Goodbye Nikon Coolpix 995

Long after they've become obsolete, I'm still using my old Nikon Coolpix 995. I'd like to upgrade, but I've got a few amateurish requirements for my next camera.

International territory

On a 13 hour layover in the Moscow airport I met a Palestinian refugee who'd been living in the international territory inside customs for 11 months; later I learned about a refugee who's lived in Charles de Gaulle for over a decade. All this makes me curious about international territory: the space between disembarking the airplane & going through customs, & the empty fenced-off stretch between some national borders (I seem to remember Turkey & Syria have a large Syrian/Druze refugee population living between the borders & at the mercy of assistance from passing tourists, but I could be totally wrong).

Waking up: alarm clock advice for the undisciplined.

Two-part question about waking up: I'm looking for something that functions like the iPod alarm clock (but without having to own an iPod) or better yet, this "peaceful progression wake-up clock." The catch is I'm kind of a cheapskate, and have no idea whether an expensive alarm clock will really help me wake up earlier & more easily. (Secondly, any good advice on how to drag myself out of bed in the morning is more than welcome, too!)

Cheapo printer filter!

Printer filter: Which of the cheap (roughly <$50) printers are most economical with ink costs factored in?

payphone interviews

On phoneswarm.org someone mentions that "...several years ago, one of CBC's main news programs became quite adept at calling pay phones in the midst of the world's current trouble spots and interviewing whoever picked up. Don't know where they managed to get the numbers, but it was unique, raw and on the spot journalism." Does anyone know what program this was, or where I could obtain transcripts or recordings of this?

prison slang!

I'm looking for a slang word/phrase used to describe a false bar in a prison cell. The idea is that when a prison was built/expanded by inmate labor, workers would loosen one bar before it'd set too solidly in cement to make a potential escape hatch. What would inmates call this?

Guatemala travel advice?

In a few days I'm headed to Guatemala for a month followed by several weeks in southern Mexico. Offer some travel suggestions please! Also, as I'll be traveling by myself, suggestions on how to be more outgoing in a language I'm not confident with welcome.
