Ericb, I was just about to post that Hugo Chavez link. It's much more substantiated than the typical "[lefty/Islamic] radicals did it!" fingerpointing our administration's gotten so good at, though still pretty tenuous-feeling to me.

What does 58 days from transplant (for example) mean?

The plant will start to bear fruit (or flowers if it's ornamental) 58 days from transplant (this assuming you plant in lil' pots & transplant a week or two after they've sprouted--which in many cases is necessary due to a growing season limited by cold weather, and also because growing in pots is "gentler").

I'm not usually very impressed with these travel journal sites, and this one's navigational interface seems totally unintuitive at first. Still, I'm a sucker for travel journals & I really like the crisscrossing-the-world map you end up with if you actually make journal entries..

I was at the Idaho championships in Ketchum (as a non-bearded spectator) last April. There was a pretty amazing dichotomy between people like myself who were there & competing for the heck of it, and people who were like "I love going to the world championships because the networking potential in the moustache community is so amazing!"

Not the Marvel route, but when I was a youngster I used to get tons of Hassidic children's magazines, some of which featured a few panels of Super Neshoma (Hebrew: soul) battling the Yetzer Hora (evil intentions/temptation) in the cut-away view of some unsuspecting Hebrew School kid's heart. There was also a full-length comic involving the messiah and two lil' kids zooming around the galaxy in a cosmic red Volkswagen, performing miracles.

With thousands of people homeless or in poverty in the US alone, I fail to see how this donation is in any way justifiable. There are many more dire situations going on at home & around the world, and this seems like a colossal "easy way out" of not addressing problems happening in our own neighborhoods in the interest of focusing on a more morally uncomplicated issue. The oddest ice cream I've ever had was from a stand in a half-abandoned amusement park in Ulan Baatar, Mongolia. I'd seen the ferris wheels from far away, and they looked so dingy I expected the park to be closed; but up close, there were teenagers on dates, kids buying balloons, bums sleeping in the grass with their feet propped on benches (then: policemen kicking them awake). Similar to what MightyNez said, a lot of people are questioning the validity of statements like "I am objecting to the flavour of mockery, sexism and homophobia which the experience carried." Americans familiar with the nonplussing nature of American comics in the b&w pages may be into knowing that Blegvad's comic strips appear weekly in British papers--I think specifically the UK Guardian, though I'm not sure.

He's also behind amateur.org.uk,a site with some interesting art & poetic philosophizing that hasn't been updated since 2001.
