That's just wrong!
Susie was in a store. The owner called the police because some other teens were shoplifting which is stealing and very hard on a small store owner. Susie was busted with the others whom she did not even know. Susie's dad was a police captain known to the arresting officers.
Moral: Remember 'guilt by association', and the police will decide who is associated.

Undeniable Examples of Women Geniuses?
Explain that history is written by the winners. If she is unaware that women had to hide behind assumed names and resort to other subterfuges to exercise their talents, then a huge job of education will need to be done.

How do I use picture rails?
Are we all on the same page here? Is the "picture rail" a rather flat mini-shelf that pictures might set on? The molding that will hang onto picture hooks is shaped just like them. In old houses is it usually up by the ceiling.

Frost forming in a frost free refrigerator.
Your picture looks similar to our Whirlpool Refrigerator-Freezer. To test the door gasket. close the door on a piece of paper. If you can pull it put, the gasket is not sealing.
It does sound like your problem is the ice chute flap not closing tight. Hope sealing that off for a few days will point you to a solution. Bummer when the factory guarantee has expired.

Sheet music quest
The Shaker hymn is Simple Gifts. It has many permutations including Lord of the Dance.
Type "Shaker hymn Simple Gifts" into Google and click on the Wikipedia entry. If all else fails, you could devise your own sheet music.

No blinkers around Philly?
Deathalicious driving with parking lights on is counter-intuitive if not amusing, but many newer cars have riding lights. The driver does not turn them on, they come on automatically and cannot be switched off.

Buying a house in Chicago - good or bad?
One of the reasons that people are losing their homes is that they have adjustable rate mortgages. When the rates were low, all was well. When the rates rose, they were unable to make their payments and lost everything. Beware.
When you get to the buying stage, it is a good idea to have a certified inspector look over the property before signing anything. Your lender may insist on it.

Should I get a hot tub?
At a previous house, we had a little house built onto the back of the garage, right next to a door into the garage.
A moisture barrier protected the garage wall. We had an 850 gallon tub installed above ground with a step or two to access the tub. The west wall was solid and the works were outside of it. The south wall was common with the garage and the other two walls had 8' glass sliders.

Coming to terms with a long-term parental rejection
Oh dear! I fear that your father will have justified his actions in his own mind and buried the treachery to your mother along with your existence. If he has not told his current wife and children that he has another child, abandoned before birth!, he may be very unwilling to have that sorry chapter revealed now.
Be sure you are emotionally stable before you risk contact.

Some company - probably local - installed the previous owners' tank. If you can't summon up sufficient faith* to make dowsing effective, try the yellow pages. Perhaps the installer kept a record of where it is.
*We had friends who owned a plumbing company. The dad was the only one who could dowse underground water. The sons scoffed, but relied on dad and his branched stick or coat hangers.

Can't you redirect her energy in ways that is helpful rather than makes you grit your teeth?
zia is on the right track. See if you can find a hobby group, Bridge club, ESL teaching, some volunteer opportunity that you can guide your mother into. She needs something to do, especially if she is not working. She is looking down the long empty years and shuddering.

Guide me on obituary/wake invitation design for a dear friend
This might not apply for your late friend, but for the funeral of a young boy who had been killed in an accident, the memento was made in the shape of a bookmark. Obviously, he had a short life so there was not a great deal to say about him. A picture of him was at the top, then dob, played soccer etc., were listed down the length.

What do you do for drug-induced depression? Well, it's more complicated than that...
Extended care and eventual closing of the estate are minefields. From what you have said, it does not sound like the "other son" is the man to negotiate such touchy territory. Have you talked to your mother-in-law's attorney? She must have made a legal document to name "other son" as executor.
If it comes to family dispute and increasing family polarization, a neutral party can be named executor - e.g., a bank. This can be expensive and unsatisfactory, but... [more]

1. Avoid carrot sticks. Anyone who puts carrots on a holiday buffet table knows nothing of the holiday spirit. In fact, if you see carrots, leave immediately. Go next door, where they're serving rum balls.

How to hang pants?
It is hard to explain, and I do not have pictures, but try this:
Hold the pants upside down;
Thread the left pants leg through the hanger, over the bar; from the opposite side, thread the right pants leg through the hanger over the bar to lie on top of the left leg.
The balance and the friction of the cloth will keep the pants on the hanger.

While you are worrying about your family, and facing such a tremendous decison, I do not think that you need to take on the Middle East's political problems also.
BTW, you mean to be discreet about your family, not discrete.

Help me help my grandparents help my mother
Your 75-year-old grandparents probably feel duty-bound to care for their daughter. They are very unlikely to be able to do so on what seems like an extended basis no matter how they feel about putting her in an institution.
The advice to consult a social worker is probably best. The gpas will have to realize that they at their age they will not able to provide the most effective level of care, and that the daughter should be put where it is available.
