I made "Quantum Mechanics" for one of Keyboard magazine's contests. I didn't win, of course.

There are lots of things I'd change about it now. There's way too much reverb, for one thing. The drum sounds are pretty wimpy (I accidentally cranked up the treble on them, which didn't help) and there's an annoying synth guitar feedback sound in there that, well, wasn't very successful. Don't feel bad about not having heard this until last month. More embarrassingly, I've heard Spock's Beard do this -- it is, in fact the title track of their second album -- and didn't realize it was originally a George Harrison song until I just now Googled it. (I highly recommend the Beard's version, just BTW.)

This is a pretty nice arrangement -- is that a real violin or synth? Either way, it works great. I think the vocals are a little off-key in places, though.... [more]

If you do double the vocal, then you need to gate the second track using the first, perhaps even using a vocoder on it.

I recognize that music from somewhere, but I can't quite place it.

"Lose Yourself" by Eminem, from 8 Mile. Also repurposed for Weird Al's "Couch Potato."

This is a great concept and the lyrics are excellent. You just need better production and maybe not to use that backing track. From a copyright standpoint you're on kind of shaky ground with using the Eminem.
