That was great!

When the video participants were signing their given names, I didn't recognize the letters as the ASL alphabet that I learned as a (non deaf) child. Does anyone know what/how they were signing in the video? Is there a more up-to-date ASL alphabet?

Thanks to everyone who pointed out that BSL was being signed, not ASL. Kind of a DURRR moment for me. I recognized a few of the other signs so it just threw me off when I didn't recognize the letters.

One less meat-based meal a week helps the planet and your diet.

This one always blows me away. Are there really people or families who eat meat at every dinner, 7 days a week? I'm not a vegetarian, but we only eat meat (including fish and poultry) about 4 times a week. How could anyone afford so much meat?

This is a great post. I'm having warm feelings about my pre-teen years. Two of my favorite NES games are way down on the list. Zelda 2: The Adventures of Link (the Zelda game everyone hates). I LOVED IT. And Bionic Commando.

How old could the reporter be? She talks about typing her senior papers on a computer - that puts her around my age at the oldest. And she didn't idolize any pop stars? You could not convince me that she, or at least 90% of her female peers, didn't want to be or pretend to be Madonna in the '80's. And Madonna was a pretty slutty role model.

I read most of the main series. I think I was in the early 100's when I was a sophomore in high school and lost interest. They were such crap but I couldn't help myself. It wasn't a cartoon, but the scene in The Neverending Story where the horse dies screwed up a lot of little girls, including my sister.

In the engine test picture, what are the brighter colored purple rings? I remember seeing some show about UFO/top secret aircraft stuff and they talked about donut shaped contrails. That picture totally reminded me of the pattern that the contrails made.

So what is the deal with Ultimate and trashed knees? There's no more running or collisions than in soccer, right? I know people who've played either sport, and I only know one person who played soccer and has knee problems (and that was an evil indoor injury). Half the people I know who play Ultimate can barely walk.

This is cute, but do the researchers spend any time watching kids play with other toys? Kids anthropomorphize everything.

My toddler currently has a unrequited crush on our vacuum, and any other noisy device that catches his attention (leaf blowers, etc). Every night he runs to the closet and kisses it good night.
