Tis the season for cold bean salads. Sock it to me. Specifically, if you've got a recipe that calls for
Cranberry Beans, I'd love to have it. I have a mess of fresh ones!

We're a newly minted nonprofit, and we want to use Google Checkout rather than Paypal. I've read the how-to on what we need to do to get verified, but there's a hitch.

I feel like I've seen a drawing of William Shakespeare (in the style of the traditional "plates") doing the Uncle Sam Wants YOU! Pose. Did I imagine this, or can someone help me find it? I have Googled, but apparently our fu is weak. That, or I am imagining this. Thanks.

Weird number translation issues? Maybe? I don't know, but when I posted to the "Crazy Congressmen" thread I know that the second time I used this link: http://www.metafilter.com/58687/FlatEarthers-No-FixedEarthers because I pasted it IN the comment box and then did the HTML around it. But it BECAME a link to the thread that I was commenting in. What? Or maybe I am totally and completely insane.

Richard Horne, better known as Harry Horse, died this weekend.
This news is more prominent in the UK than in the US, but
Harry Horse (MySpace) was not only a writer and illustrator of
children's books, but he also
designed video games and drew striking
political cartoons. In the 80's he played with a band called
Swamptrash (listened to but unavailable on
LastFM), whose other members eventually went on to form
Shooglenifty. Tragically, Richard's wife Mandy developed
Multiple Sclerosis, and eventually became confined to a wheelchair and unable to speak. Rather than live without her, he chose to help her die and then take his own life, possibly reigniting the
discussion in the UK about
euthanasia.

The Real-Life Vesper Lynde.
Known to history as Christine Granville, Krystyna Skarbek was first Polish nobility and later Churchill's favorite spy. Undaunted by weather, Christine skied over the
Tatras from Hungary to Poland to gather intelligence and participated in the liberation of France. She was awarded the
Croix de Guerre, but found herself ill-suited to normal employment, and worked as a saleswoman at Harrods and as a telephonist before becoming an oceanliner stewardess. Along the way, Christine met
Ian Fleming, who may have
based his first "Bond Girl" on the intrepid spy. Want to know more? Read her recently republished
biography or
order her file from the Briish National Archives.

I've read through the AskMe archives, and I didn't really find an answer to my question. We found a photo on Flickr that we want to use as a banner on the site for our new production of a play that is in the public domain. I've mocked up the banner and tried to contact the owner of the photo. . . but what if she doesn't contact us back?

My husband, a friend and I have started a community theatre group. We're in the midst of our first show, and we've gotten great publicity and we're getting healthy first-time audiences. We want to keep doing this, but we think we need to incorporate (become an LLC, LLP, something) before we get in too far. A lot . . .

While abroad last fall, I had really awesome sandwhiches. It seemed like every pub we ate in had a brie-and-bacon-on-some-sort-of-bread available. Now that I'm back in the states, I want to know where to find English bacon, or how to substitute for it.

A friend of mine works in an entry-levelish position in a small firm in a certain industry. The job she has is really very good for her professionally -- the company deals in exactly the niche market she wants to work with, and they're giving her more to do, so she's getting excellent experience. The only problem is that our research indicates that they're underpaying her.

This weekend my husband and I are planning on re-doing the guest bathroom. The house is run-of-the-mill American wood-construction, built in 1985. The shower fixtures seem to be "original equiptment," as it were, and look bad enough that I'd like to replace them. The shower is fiberglass and there is no "acecss panel" to get to the inner workings of the shower. How do we replace the knobs, spigot, drain, and shower head/neck with the least hoopla?

Klaw Kontrol bag described as a good way to control your cat for various necessary procedures. Our usually
sweet-tempered girl cat has taken to randomly destroying things while we're not here, and we want to install
these things as an alternative to declawing (which we will not do). Anyone have any experience with these, or other "Kitty Stop It" aids?

We've looked at both, and I think I like pre-finished hardwood better, but I wanted some real-life commentary, rather than my speculation. Any laminate horror stories? Successes? Pre-finished camp have anything to add?
