Thank you, admins.
This is bizarre. It would make a lot more sense to thank the people who post good things.
I personally feel that the deletions here are always a shame. Shame that somebody posted something worth deleting (if it really was), shame that we had to assign a person to babysit our posts and posters, shame that someone has to make the fuzzy decision, and msot of all shame that we can't have more free discussions largely because people here can't handle posts of a certain... Should we hate on them because they're a symptom of the reality's imperfection?
Plutor. There is no admin-hate in my post.
Feel free to take those words from my mouth and stuff them down your throat. Thanks.

1 day in Moscow?
I emailed an Italian friend there to see if she'd put you up, but it's a no-go (she'll be gone). Poke around expat.ru, it's a much better forum than couchsurfing, when you're talking about Moscow.

Whatever happened to monkeyfilter? [more...
I don't use MoFi because of the insularity of the place. The monkey jokes/posts got tiring, even as a casual reader, and the commenters are definitely too cliquish.
I say that as an outsider, I'm certain it's deeply satisfying for them.
As for MeCha, I go there about once a week, ignore the stupid "OMG BUNNY" posts, and generally enjoy a few odd links or some light conversation. I've gotten and given help and advice there, which is... [more]

What's the policy on posting music links in thread?...
To answer the question, I'm not aware of any policy. But I wouldn't worry about getting clearance.
Just post it at YouSendIt or some other service that expires. I'm a musician myself, and I've found in Google results that people have traded my (unreleased) songs in this way. As long as it's not at some personal location FOREVER, it's not really a big deal. The expiring link at YouSendIt will more or less hide your tracks and prevent the whole community from getting it.... [more]

Is it a serious faux-pas to suggest things or give...
I do, however, think AskMe is a venue where we should challenge opinions and preheld conceptions, considering people are asking total strangers for suggestions so are likely on-the-fence.
The purpose of askmefi is to answer questions, not to "challenge" anything.
Situations arise when contrary advice may be useful. But that's very different than when a poster asks you not to bother them with an... [more]

Looks like the time zone code is broke....
When I was in Germany last month, I didn't change my setting in Metafilter for CEST. I did set my watch for the local time. I was not confused that the posts on Metafilter were appearing several hours in the past.
YES.
PS. Lay off the condescending bullshit, orthogonality. It's not going to make your correct time zone itch go away. It doesn't help other user's impressions of you and it doesn't help your cause.

So what's the protocol, if any, for a situation...
Seems like fairly solid proof to me - certainly proof enough to add your site to the post.
OK, seriously. Adding his site to the post is not some truly wonderful blessing that we bestow upon him. And he is "we". Member since 2005. It's credit where credit is due.
Not only that, it's a hyperlink, on the internet, to his website. He didn't need to prove it was his to you personally, and your approval isn't terribly... [more]

I'm just posting to publicly thank Cillit Bang for sending me some old Minidiscs over a year ago; he was going to throw them away but instead sent them overseas to the US.
I'm recording sounds in Russia right now with the very same discs.

ZOMG Horrible chatfilter. I really like this...
Delmoi.
If the chatty, noisy aspects of this site upset you so, you should really, truly, strongly consider posting less. Your posts are so frequent, so often annoying, and so often off-the-mark (or just off-kilter, pushing some backhanded agenda as this one is), that if I ever get a killfile working, you'll be the first user in it.

not really. it's metatalk, in the comments, not an FPP, and he's not offering anything for sale, for fuck's sake. whether or not orthogonality developed some plugin really doesn't seem that important. at. all.

matteo, scarabic, I think you're waaaay off on bOINGbOING. Almost all the crap posted on there is "Look at this Product! Buy My book! I Wish I had One!"... Here, that would be called Pepsi Blue. If there's an Amazon link, it's usually an Amazon referrer link. Most things posted by Mark Frauenfelder are pathetic product trolls, like these pathetic shills.
