I can’t believe that posting corrections to comments takes that much time away from real work.
Obviously a joke once you get the bottom....
Any plans for spending your venture capital?
Part of the deal we have with Bolus is the acquisition of a Russian company that is working on what they call a “clue gate.” The idea is to identify and filter out postings from newbies, particularly on technical forums, so employees are not tempted to insult someone who can’t install Python, for example, or to spend an hour explaining why a real programmer has... 'Rejected' Dark Knight script
The script didn't mention that all the exteriors need to be shot from a rotating helicopter perspective while a menacing guitar chord is hit.
Fail.

Does anyone else see the implicit conceit in the overall tone and content of the article? In that between bouts of false-self deprecation (which are only used to justify the bouts of self-aggrandizing), the argument is "it's torture now because I tried and and I say it is."
You know, the rest of us don't need to be hooded, strapped to a board, and have water poured down their nostrils to understand what civilized human beings do and... [more]

Harshing your mellow
Very interesting article. And yet another reason to just stop the farce that is the drug war and start regulating these growers like any other farmer/business.

Wow-e: Malthusian Fear Mongering Can Be Annoying
GOLDBERG: You should find some clips from the old cartoon "Captain Planet." It was just relentless propagandizing of children where the villains were all these cartoonish -- literally cartoonish -- corporate CEOs who wanted to destroy the environment. And all that -- the only thing that could save the world was if all the children from all over the world got together and formed this super hero to save the planet.
It was pure environmental propaganda.... [more]

I thought the same thing odinsdream... I was happy to see a post about WALL-E just because I wanted to express my pure unadulterated joy for the best movie I've seen in a long time.

What should I do with my life?
I have always loved Thoreau's quote:
This spending of the best part of one's life earning money in order to enjoy a questionable liberty during the least valuable part of it reminds me of the Englishman who went to India to make a fortune first, in order that he might return to England and live the life of a poet. He should have gone up garret at once.

Your job does not define who you are.
But people sure make it seem like it does.
So what do YOU do, mattbucher?

Another great Thoreau nugget:
Why should we be in such desperate haste to succeed, and in such desperate enterprises? If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer.

Countdown to 49 states?
Like the article says, there are many sovereignty movements in Hawaii, of which this is only one. The bottom line is that it is never going to happen in the grand scale that they want it to. What will (hopefully) most likely happen, is the other item the article mentioned:
A state agency, the Office of Hawaiian Affairs, is pursuing something far short of a restoration of the monarchy. It is pressing for federal legislation that would give Native Hawaiians a... [more]

Eight solid hours of sleep... and DOOM!
The study showed that a group sleeping 8 hours were 12 percent more likely to die within the six-year period than those sleeping 7 hours, other factors being equal. Even those with as little as 5 hours sleep lived longer than participants with 8 hours or more per night.
The mean age for women in the study was 57, while the mean age for men was 58. Within the six year period, 5.1 percent of the women had died and 9.4 percent of the men. The causes of death... [more]

Weezer - Pork and Beans
Also, the evolution of dance guy has 86 MILLION views? Is that really right, or is it some kind of YouTube bug?
Thats for real I believe. It's been the most watched video on YouTube forever, and I think it's become a self-fulfilling prophecy at this point... because at some point everyone new to YouTube goes, "Hm, I wonder what the MOST popular video is?" And then they see that and go, "Huh. Weird."
86 Million and one.

Ok, that sucked. If you hit TAB after you throw him somewhere, and then hit spacebar, a new guy appears but you can't do anything with him other than make him convulse like he's having a seizure until the original version of him comes back to be pointlessly tossed against one of the three walls.
