Gettin' down with the rentals on Dominica.
I have been to Dominica several times albeit not for a few years. Forget about public transport. If you don't want to miss out on most of the island; hiring a car is a must; and well worth it. A jeep is probably the way to go as not only are they more rugged + have 4 wheel drive but they are lighter to push if you slide off the road!. Dominica is a beautiful rugged island and off the major roads its easy to get punctures. Enjoy.

How do I clean turbot?
Turbot is a flat fish so here goes: -Get yourself a very sharp flexible knife and a dishcloth and some salt.
Damp the salt and put on the cloth where you later hold the fish tail after filietting to get a grip.
Cut off fish head close to cheek bones, at top of backbone. Save for stock.
Cut straight down the backbone and then use sharp flexible knife to cut away from backbone to the side; angle knife slightly down to cut close to rib bones, Repeat on other... [more]

How best for an EU company to employ someone in the UK?
If said person is selfemployed and has VAT number he / she can then be contracted by the Italian company and bill accordingly as agreed. Self employed person is responsible for their own Social security payments and Tax. Obviously he / she will calculate this into agreement.

Present day thinking: Miami is the financial capital of Latin America. Dubai is the modern crossroads between Europe and Asia. Brussels is the administrative centre of Europe.
Singapore and Hong Kong are still Asian crossroads and hubs.
LA and Vancouver are Pacific asian / american crossroads.

How to hunt out great books and good authors?
I notice a lot of "go to your library" answers when you have specifically said this is not really feasible. I guess you are limited to on ine research. I suggest checking review pages of "quality" online newspapers papers such as The Guardian or Independent and specialist publications such as New York Review of Books or TLS. I also second Library Thing. Of course there are some excellent suggestions to be found right here.... [more]

San Diego, tell me more
Head to Hillcrest where there is a sort of Bohemian feel. Its also the gay / lesbian heart of S. Cal. It starts at the N. end of Balboa Park and goes North. The centre (University and 5th) has lots of second hand bookshops, antiques, and small good quality, good priced restaurants. Its a village sort of place, and fun to stroll around. If you have a car head East on 8 beyond Alpine and go to Cuyamaca State Park or drive part of the Pacific Rim on the Sunrise Hwy. with the Laguna woods on one... [more]

Thanks for your help so far. Yes I have read the chemocare page and have printed it for him.
As I am in Spain not USA the FDA doesn't count. The taste he discribes is horribly mettallic. Plastic utensils might help here.
But eating with "proper cutlery" is part of the quality of lfe fot a traditional Englishman. I will investigate miraculin, but I don't think sourness is the problem here. Everything, even lemonade tastes metallic.

How can I send sailboat parts to myself in Spain for personal use without paying VAT. (I'm a US citizen going for the summer)
If your yacht is non EU flagged you are entitled to a customs transit to get your goods onboard duty free; provided said goods are essential to running of said yacht. In practice this depends where your yacht is docked as some areas are more geared for this than others.
My email is in my profile. I used to part own a freight and customs agency in Spain geared especially to the needs of larger yachts; I can probably steer you in the right direction.

I should requalify my answer above. You may get a customs transit to bring goods in from non EU countries to a non EU registered yacht. There is not tax exemption on EU goods going onboard foreign flagged yachts in EU waters. Again email in profile if you want to get more specific.
