The Head, the Hands, and the Heart
Fantastic news! I remember going to one of the rereleases several years ago and being hooked from start to finish, not bad for a movie with no speech and a run time of over three hours.
Now, someone needs to dig up Lost Horizon.

Religion scholars of Judas "feel, in a word, betrayed."
So, just as an aside, why are so many people hating on the Ehrman books? Because they are flawed, because they are mainstream best-sellers, or what? I read both Lost Christianities and Misquoting Jesus and, while I obviously can't check his primary sourcework, nothing in the bibliography or notes made me call his scholarship into question.
I mean, the Judas that appears in the Gospel of Judas appears to be a straight up Gnostic interpretation of the man. Hardly... [more]

Okay, seriously. Is this for real? I mean, for real, real? As in, isn't Congress just going to pass a bill tomorrow that says whoops, sorry about that, here's your copyright back?
Oh, good lord no!
(Just don't make them to make this mistake again.)

Man, I LOVED this show as a kid!
It's funny, just yesterday I made a post about tRGB on the MetaFighter forums and which episodes did I pick to embed? Well, great minds think alike!
It was such a well written and well crafted and relatively mature show, especially compared to its contemporaries. I mean, until it became the Ghostbusters and Slimer Hour. Ahem.

ericb: You're obviously not the only one who felt this way - whois.net has already maxed out it's number of lookups for this address for the day.
I can only imagine that's because a new user who has just the minimum number of posts allowed to create a FPP just posted a link to a silly little product that just went live on June 2nd. Oh, and a totally unrelated webcomic that just happens to link to the product in some remote, contextless corner.... [more]

Suspension de l’abonnement internet
You know, Charles Dickens used to be angry that rogue printing presses in the United States pirating all his stuff.
Of course, in retrospect we know is rage was correct, since clearly the market for books expired in the 19th century.

Indie platformer extravaganza!
I was going to bust you out for a stupid one-link wikipedia post on the front page, then I saw the more inside.... Just the sort of underhanded shiftiness I've come to expect from you. Excellent post.

Violent struggle, but cute.
My friend got me playing this, though I'm not liking it. Of course, that doesn't have anything to do with the game itself, which is sort of cute though glacial in pace, but because he and a friend played like 10 games before inviting me. You can imagine how well I'm doing.

The "dynamic octagenarian duo"
I thought it was funny in the Superbad review that he was really upset with them using "Penis" all the time, but she was all "Penis is a perfectly good word!" and was upset about too much fuck. The internet seriously needs more old people.

My advice to the graduates: Plastics.
I was *supposed* to get Dan Rather, I think it was, but he couldn't make it and instead we got something like the junior undersecretary to the Joint Chief of Staff's laundry guy. The class AFTER mine, DID get Rather, though. Bah.

Barack vs Clinton - a cool interactive graphic
I saw this and thought about posting it myself yesterday, glad it went up. Very interesting.
Goatdog: I dont' see what difference the state population would make on the graphic, other than more data. Is it necessary or relevant?

College is too expensive; but is it necessary?
College is useless. For the autodidacts it merely distracts from their real education. For the general population it merely distracts from their Facebooking and im'ing. There is a class of people - the worker drones - that you see getting engineering degrees, for whom it perhaps makes sense.
You clearly feel pretty good about yourself. Guess autodidact school doesn't leave a lot of room for socialization, which is where I... [more]

In the Wake of the Floods
My only question is if there are going to be any Burmese left to revolt in anger after this horror show gets cleaned up.
"Slow to act" is understatement. The junta is outright obstructionist.

OI: Well, I'm thinking more about the possibly upcoming pandemic spurred on by having hundreds of thousands of bodies essentially rotting in the beginning of a tropical summer. Statement was hyperbolic, certainly, but epicly horrendous casualty levels to come are not out of the question.

"You know, there's something stirring about the peaceful transfer of no power"
I would say that (a) in the case of Katrina, what was being mocked was actually the government bumbling rather than the event itself and (b) in the case of 9/11, what is being lampooned are the attackers themselves.
In the case of Virginia Tech, a sadly fucked up guy killed a whole lot of people. There's not much angle for comedy there. I think that's the case in most disasters. The Boxing Day Tsunami strikes me as another disaster widely covered that would have no place on TDS.
