I need a new look for my theater directing portfolio. I could use some help in figuring out how to lay out the pictures, how to display them, maybe create some of kind of "brand identity" (ugh). I've got some big meetings in the next couple of months and I want to be able to clearly display my work in print and online, and I could really use someone to take a look at my work and critique it/help me design a better look for it. What Can Art Do for You? We’ve all heard that Art enriches our communities, makes our children smarter, and brings in money and jobs. In response to the recently released RAND study (PDF) which critiqued the arguments made by arts organizations for the funding of the arts, Doug McLennan of ArtsJournal.com invited “11 prominent arts people” to discuss if there is a better way to advocate for the arts. Why do we need to market the arts? Shouldn’t Art advocate for itself? Are there different ways to sell the benefits of the arts in this day and age?

CopyrightFilter: If I want to adapt a copyrighted(?) book into a theater performance, do I need to get the rights? Can I write a script, maybe even do a workshop production or do I need to get the rights before I can even think about adaptation? Who do I talk to to get the rights, and how much does this usually cost? Does it matter if the venue is tiny, and the theater company has no money?
