Changing day length in the fall can cause some birds to start singing then as well. One of my professors termed it "the autumnal recrudescence of the amatory urge." He may have copped it from somewhere, he never fessed up. Oddly enough, a quick Google search turns up these lyrics, copyrighted by someone possessing the same last name as my old professor. She may have been his first wife. Unfortunately, both of them are now deceased, so perhaps I'll never know if the phrase was his.... [more]

Clubbing a baby seal with a dead queen is murder, only it's really nothing.
I know from personal experience that not all of the seal meat under that fur goes to waste. I do not know how much, but at least some of it finds its way to people's freezers and eventually their tables. Life isn't easy for a lot of people in Atlantic Canada, especially Newfoundland. Randall the Enamel Animal
I truly appreciate what Dogfish Head (and, to a less extreme but perhaps more refined extent, Victory Brewing) does. However, I long for an American brewery to make a fabulously tasty yet lower alcohol beer along the lines any decent British bitter (eg Fuller's London Pride, Young's Bitter, Timothy Taylor's Landlord). I understand the market and the means of delivery are different, yet I don't see why a lower alcohol yet flavorful beer wouldn't be popular here. Every microbrew seems like it... [more]
