Skins vs Shirts
Cool at blogging events? Isn't that a bit of an oxymoron?

Koko: WANT BIG SWEATPANTS WITH MEFI ON BUM THX
I prefer the words "COTTAGE CHEESE". Not as any kind of allusion to the contents therein but, come on, the stuff is awesome. Shirts are SO last year.

Reply link inline w/ comments?
Not sure why pb (or someone else) couldn't add an additional link on the comment you want to quote that drops the contents of the comment into the text box with a pre-formatted URL to the specific quote.
Throw a div around each comment with a unique id:
<div id="comment_519155">comment stuff here</div>
Add an id to the anchor link in the "posted by" line:

The "text box" I'm referring too in my first sentence is the comment textarea.

You assume. The user still has to add their own comments and contextualize the quote. Some people might do it, but I doubt it would be the majority. I don't see how it would be any different then any number of the other poor formatting possibilities.

Wow. Henry C. Mabuse is certainly full of himself. Maybe he should get his own blog? Write a few short stories, post a few recipes. You know, fun stuff. I'd definitely check it out.
That is, if I can ever break myself away from the cabal.

I might stop by. In town for a conference all week. The big shin-dig is on Thursday night but if it sucks I'll bail (which is a very good possibility).

Ask the Moral Compass
Oh come on. I hard time believing this question was even legitimate. How could anyone possibly identify with the the OP in any way that helped justify the affair?

nola, you've got it all wrong. The equation is:
Post + Pile on = Flame-out
Adding supporting comments could potentially change the result and then the next logical outcome is the complete destruction of the known universe.
Now, do you want that on your conscience?

AskMeFi Deprivation
There was this time... when I was younger. I'm not proud of it -- not proud of it at all. I felt like the world was ready to be cracked open by my wit and enthusiasm.
Unfortunately, I posted a question to AskMe and the lack of immediate visceral reaction left me jaded and I turned to the more unaccepted vices.
Now I spend most nights waist-high in a ditch. I wash myself in the dirty city effluent and dream that the web and database server could... [more]

New UI feature: resizable textareas
It would be interesting for those who are seeing some bugs to try out FF and see if any errors are generated in the Error Console for the browser. I've solved many a JS a problem that way. You could try the script debugger in IE, but I've found that much more unreliable.

Not a bad idea. But, unless the entire page is blinking with large block letters indicating the resulting discussion then I doubt most people will either notice, or care even if they do.

You know who else mentioned Metafilter? Hitler. Apparently, Mein Kampf was supposed to be printed in blue but the original publisher felt that it would detract from the otherwise light-hearted nature of manuscript.

If there was ever some sort of competition that involved both of the participants to wear some kind of funny pant-like suit that represented darkness. The sense that those yuppy-like suspender wearing existentialists would hold forth on the nature of life, love and the suspense of not knowing where/who/what your god-fearing parents believed and/or espoused when it came down to the ultimate questions.
Questions like, where is the next jar of peanut butter coming from? Not... [more]

I guess I should have shortened that to "why would anyone be using Vista?"
And then I would have separately asked "why would anyone be using IE7?"
Given that my job requires me to run it, I would say that that would be a particularly good reason. As for IE7, I do prefer Firefox and Opera but IE7 cannot be ignored (as it's the default browser on Vista) and if I'm not familiar... [more]

Looks great in Firefox and IE7 on Windows. Excellent work. The unanswered questions tab is a pony long in coming, but well worth the wait.

Enjoy the pearl. So far I haven't heard anything but glowing reviews from existing owners. I'd love to get one myself but the lock on CDMA that my business has means I'll have to wait at least another year to revel in it's sexiness.
