I'm a cyberspace commuter?

Here we go again: partial lyric, name the song. The phrase "I'm a cyberspace commuter" is repeated several times. The chorus goes something like "ooh-ooh then I see you smile, and everything's fine... Ooh-ooh then I look at the sky and I see the sun shine"

Mainstream slumming on the sci fi side of the street?

I just found out that the dystopian/futuristic movie Children of Men is based on a novel by P.D. James. It made me think of the excellent short story The Machine Stops by E.M. Forster. It made me wonder: are other examples of mainstream authors experimenting with speculative fiction?

I've got the will and the time to write - but about what?

Am I crazy to think about trying to find a field or topic to write about purely based on potential popularity? If not, how?

Help me develop my career "plan b"

I’ve been chronically underemployed since I graduated from college. At the moment I am at home with my infant son, which will be my primary employment probably for the next 2-3 years. I want to start preparing now to improve my career potential down the line. Right now I’m pursuing creative ambitions, but they aren’t necessarily practical and it seems sensible to keep an eye on the pragmatic.

On September 30th, 2004, my son, Jonah David,...

On September 30th, 2004, my son, Jonah David, entered this world 10 weeks ahead of schedule. Tomorrow he's finally coming home, after a very weird 40ish days of commuting between the NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unity), home and work. On December 10 I'm joining the growing ranks of stay-at-home dads.

Any personal experiences, either of raising preemies or being an at-home dad? Good online resources, other than slowlane.com, which I've already found? And, old chestnut as this one may be, bright ideas about potential incomes to be earned from home would be appreciated... We're willing to accept the lifestyle change for the sake of having a full-time parent on the job, but any little bit will sure help.
