How to appeal a tourist visa denial?

My sister-in-law in Japan was denied a tourist visa to visit us here in the US. It's especially disappointing because my wife and sister haven't seen each other in over a decade, nor has she ever met our kids. Is there anything we can do at this point?

Greece Tour Guide Info?

After saving for a couple years my family and two others are ready to have our Greece vacation this spring, and now I need some organizational advice. There's great info in previous askme threads on itineraries and what to see, but I am hoping to find a local tour guide who can help us see the sites.

I found these two AskMe threads interesting in a "he said-she said" sort of way and thought others might as well. One is about a person wanting to leave her husband, the other is about a husband whose wife just left him.
I'm in no way implying that I think the events are related, but thought they provided an interesting perspective on how people respond in relationship threads.

For some reason in my profile, where it is supposed to say "xx MetaFilter users near this user:" I get "no zip found in the db". I found that strange, as I live in a suburb of DC, but shrugged it off as everyone else living in the cooler parts of town. However, when I got bored and looked into it, I'm 26.87 miles from darksquirrel. Yet darksquirrel is 29.78 miles from jenny18 and they show up in each other's zipcode list. Is this a bug, or have I uncovered the fact that my neighborhood has been blackballed by MeFi?

Facts without agendas

The Iraq Index is a statistical compilation of economic, public opinion, and security data. An extensive collection by the Brookings Institue of indicators outlining the security situation, the economy and quality of life, as well as polling and politics data. (One downside is that it is a pdf file). Also from the same source is a comparable compilation for Afghanistan

A secret that stayed secret in the place where no one can keep a secret

We may soon know the identity of Deep Throat. It seems that Bob Woodward has penned the obituary of the elusive Deep Throat. There have been no lack of theories for who might actually be Deep Throat. And of course, any political conspiracy theory secret wouldn't be any fun without tying it back to Bush somehow.

Bush's suit bulge revisited:

Bush's suit bulge revisited: Originally it was thought to be a hidden radio prompter (that Bush laughed off in an interview). Others speculated it was a bullet proof vest, and maybe troutfishing almost got it right. So now, the latest theory is a portable defibrillator.
Is the president as healthy as they'd want us to believe?
