Wow.
Congratulations! I hope it works out for you.
I have really recent experience with this. After waiting 18 months to adopt domestically, we were matched in July with a situation involving twins. They were due August 11 (but were actually born August 4), giving us only a couple of weeks to prepare. Since we'd been waiting a long time, we did already have a crib and a pack-and-play (we knew it was likely we'd have to stay in a hotel until interstate compact paperwork... [more]

Eeeew, we can't eat that!
Wellness Chicken & Herring, Beef & Salmon, and Sardine, Shrimp & Crab are all completely mushy. No chunks. (Although the Beef & Salmon is oilier than the others - my cat doesn't like it as much.)

why so many WA state plates in NoVA?
I don't know about Washington state, but do expect a small influx of Michigan plates to NoVA - VW is moving its U.S. headquarters to Herndon, and a couple of hundred employees are coming too. One of them just moved in close to my house. Of course, I'm sure they'll register their cars soon and not try to skirt VA personal property tax. ;)

And on the 7th day, he finished the kitchen
In my county, the noise ordinance applies from 11pm - 7am every day. This morning, I started mowing my lawn at 9:30. I was going to wait until 10, but someone's kid was outside LOUDLY wailing and screaming, so I figured that the silence had already been shattered. Most of my neighbors seem to be early risers anyway, and they certainly don't want a neighboring house looking junky like a foreclosure.

I need a Wii bit of help
Wii Play is good for learning the system (and getting an extra Wiimote) and Wii Sports is always fun. I also have Guitar Hero 3, Petz Catz 2, Carnival Games, and Thrillville - all of which I like so far. 0I have played Zelda and Harry Potter, and liked them, but had some trouble with the gestures for spellcasting in Harry Potter. I am anxiously awaiting the arrival of Wii Fit. I also have played Lego Star Wars on a friend's Xbox, and the Wii version will definitely be my next purchase.... [more]

Squirrels are crunchy
My cat caught a bunny and ate it. She's generally not fast enough to get birds (except the occasional injured bird or baby), but will eat them if she catches them. She'll catch voles but won't eat them - they're for tossing around on the porch. And Miss Cleo is extremely well-fed, as you can see from the picture. I just keep telling myself that it's the circle of life.

Shelta in San Francisco
Have you seen Travellers' Rest? From the site's FAQ:
5. I see your site has a lexicon, a codex of sorts, but you have made allusions to not revealing the Cant as currently spoken in the U.S.A. Surely there must be some resource for “lapsed” Travellers or half-Travellers or newly married-in Travellers whereby they may opt “in” on the life. Can you direct me to those resources?

No more Mr. Kitty Creosote! But why?
I just transitioned my cat from Science Diet (mostly dry, a little bit of canned) to Wellness (canned only). She used to binge on the Science Diet dry, then puke it up (hardly even chewed). She hasn't puked at all on Wellness, and is eating less grass.
We switched because at her last vet visit she was 16.6 pounds, and while she is a genuinely large-framed cat, she's gone from 'overweight' to 'obese'. The vet recommended prescription food, and even said that the... [more]

My aching feet
I have these Crocs - Celeste - they have a grippier insole, and I find that my feet don't get as sweaty in them as with the regular Crocs. Mine are canvas, but they also make them in suede.

Gift for a young violin player?
I started playing violin when I was a kid, and my parents gave me a music stand. I switched to saxophone a few years later, but I still use that music stand today (25 years!). So I'd recommend a music-related gift that isn't necessarily violin-specific (stand, tuner, concert experiences, etc.)

What to give a soldier
Phone cards. My husband's cousin is stationed in Iraq, and his wife recommends this site for ordering. They will even send them directly to your nephew once you have his address.
