Ask post: Movies with multiple plot twists
'Shallow Grave' is a really excellent twist thriller. It's the first film made by Danny Boyle and Andrew McDonald (who later made 'Trainspotting,' '28 Days Later,' 'Sunshine' and some others) and it's Hitchcockian in the best sense of the word. I couldn't recommend it more highly for what you are looking for.

Ask post: Whence comes sediment-free after-dinner coffee?
based on my experience as a banquet service captain at a resort, i'd guess it's that you're drinking decaf. the standard practice where i worked is to serve everyone decaf at evening banquet events, regardless of what they requested. the reasoning was that the guests tended to leave sooner if they didn't get a hot caffeine injection.

also, accidentally serving caffeine to someone who requested decaf was certain to generate a bitter complaint; serving decaf to people that... [more]

prince gets pretty histrionic on "temptation" from around the world in a day -- you'll note at the end of the linked lyrics he gets into an argument with god about lust and god smites him.

what a crap answer, dda.

"hope that helps!" indeed.

The controlled demolition vs. jet fuel + pancake theory is of less interest to me as I feel it's more difficult to prove, if a good summary of the inconsistencies there is included that would be preferable

it might help to say where this pub was.

since it was a pub, i'm guessing you're somewhere in the british isles.

thus, my wild, left-field guess is that it was the twilight sad, since they're scottish, noisy, have a deep-voiced singer, and have an emergent profile.

the corndog man, a great little overlooked revenge thriller.

johnny suede, directed by tom decillo and starring brad pitt, catherine keener, and a great performance by nick cave as rocker "freak storm." it's chock-full of moments of subtle hilarity, including my favorite, where johnny and bandmate (and co-worker) deke (wonderfully acted by calvin levels) make a pros and cons list over whether he should move in with yvonne (keener).

too lazy to look it up, but frogan posted a question along similar lines a day or so ago, about silversun pickups "lazy eye," which is pretty goddamn anthemic if you ask me.

also, check out "coast to coast" by love as laughter, "this year" by the mountain goats, "all systems red" by calexico, "nerves" by silkworm (on 'firewater') and "dremate" (on 'in the west', "twilight creeps" by crooked fingers...

william shatner's stuff of the last few years is pretty kickass and largely spoken -- check out fear of pop, which was a ben folds project with an incredible shatner song on it called "in love" and the recent solo album "has been."

this is not a joke, it's truly great stuff regardless of what you think of shatner the persona.

another data point here -- i recently checked a bag for a flight to san francisco because i use brylcreem on my hair and the original container, which was about 75% empty, was 4.5 oz. this was at the behest of the gate agent. my bag was lost for eight days as a result.

i'll never check a bag again.

Ask post: where to find incense cigarettes for figurines?
thanks for the help. it looks like the smoking baby cigs might work -- just hard to tell if they're the right size. the picture makes them look too big, but then smoking baby is only 2 3/4" tall, so they'll probably fit. i'll probably order them to try.

contessa, i couldn't tell anything about those cigs in the picture and they're described as cones, so i don't know. but i appreciate the answer nonetheless.
