Any form field with an input type of text is suffering from squashed rendering. Safari 2.0.3 (417.9.3) on 10.4.6, no weird user CSS. Everything is peachy in Firefox and Metafilter seems to be the only site affected.

And now I notice that nothing I type in the comment textarea displays, but the live preview is fine.

For a certain class of upper-Midwesterners, shooting at anything which moves qualifies at sport. This includes small animals, cars, and highway signs. (Target practice for highway signs usually happens at 80 mph in the middle of the night so, arguably, the signs are moving.)
