Autism Visible
I found the anecdotes accompanying the photos to be more interesting, and more insightful.
"It was his mother's first time riding, and Mark surrendered his long-time horse to her, so that she would be sure to have a good one."

People can panic
On the way home from school many years ago, our bus flipped while trying to turn left down a steep hill. I think I must've been out for a half minute of so because by the time I found my feet it seemed like more than a few kids off the crowded bus had made it out.
I spent a second of two looking around for my brother and sister, and I will allow myself to say I was looking for anybody else that might've been hurt as well. Things were moving pretty fast. It was... [more]

...But I Went Out and Achieved Anyway!
I was at one of the games where Abbott got a hit. Jon Lieber gave it up at Wrigley Field in a 7-4 win. It was against the Cubs, DevilDance, need any more explanation?
I want to say it was a bunt single, for obvious reasons, but a nagging part of me thinks he may have taken an actual swing at the ball. I had a few Old Styles in me at that point...

I should also add that I thought the same thing, however:
"How in the hell did that just happen?"

Contrary to popular belief, I am not actually retarded
I like Bill Simmons, but I think this guy's writing is a little more contemplative and therefore more entertaining for me. Perhaps this is because Shirley writes only to please himself.
Then again, maybe I need to read for more than one day to see how many jokes get recycled. Did you see how I did that? Watch this again... watch this right here... BAM!

NO CARRIER
Thanks for the laugh 327.ca.
It's about as hard-hitting these days as Tank McNamara.
I actually didn't start reading Doonesbury regularly until BD lost his leg. I'm sure I'm not the only one with a buddy over there...

The Gorge
Life would be pretty boring if everybody agreed with everybody else.
Very excited about the new book, tho! Even if Baudalino left me a little bewildered...

At first glance I thought it was going to be about this gal, who, at second glance, I think is a much better writer.

Inner Town Pub on there as well? Just curious... no reason.

Wonder if Chuck's parents still live in the same house with the same pool... perhaps this is where the fainting came in.

bardic, Jacob did do some wrasslin' with a demon in a river. Consequently, his name was changed to Israel, a name that translates to "Strugglers with God", which I guess could also mean "Wrasslers with God."

This will be a good comic... good enough?
I thought Strikes Back was a tad over the top, and I find Jim Lee's art a tad too polished at times, but I'm still buyin' nonetheless. Assuming Begins does well, will these new books serve as the foundation for the next movie? Who would you pick as Boy Wonder?

Wathcing video from 60 Minutes depicting children scrounging around in the dirt for bugs to eat was a good start for me.

So, Davy, I'm guessing you wouldn't be too interested in this bridge I got for sale either. Oh well...
If Mike Wallace isn't good enough for you, then who, may I ask, would be?
As far as our policy has been, I think all Bush has really done has been to accelerate the waiting game that has been going on for years. Did anyone see this regime lasting much longer? The wisdom in this administration's refusal to placate remains to be seen.

Wal Mart Sells It's Plan To Destroy America
This is why I will never post to the front page and remain locked up tighter than a drum.
Which is more ironic, however: the fact that Wal-Mart attempts to profit from the plotting of their downfall, or that this thread is more fun than the original?

Wait! Don't stone me! Stone him!
My comment was made with a sense of mirth, not to poo poo anybody. The Wal-Mart thing has been done to death here, while talking smack never gets old.
Maybe one day, Chico... I too will arrive at Mefi, and leave a man.

The Hydrogen Economy
One might also wish to consider possible improvements in how energy is transported.
Still kinda pie in the sky maybe, but no less so than some of the other technologies listed here. It seems to me that learning to manipulate materials at the molecular level is key to a host of technologies that could have an impact on the economy.
Tommy Friedman's Sunday column sings a similar song.... [more]
