MeTa post: History from a witness.
Yes, sidebar that comment.

I had to spend 10 min. explaining my reaction to that comment to my girlfriend last night. That it took me from, "Yeah! Lock that asshole away forever! Nyah, nyah! Hah!" to a much colder, less exuberant, probably longer lasting and definitely more personal and rational anger.

MeTa post: Bawlmer with or without Boh
Yeah, I only suggested Artscape because it was during the day, which is a good time for this transit-riding woman to get out.

Advil, I'm calling this one because the last one was right before I moved to Baltimore, and no one has tried since. So, when you get here, call one .

Sat. or Sun. evenings are fine with me. Or a Sunday afternoon at High Grounds, in Highlandtown? They have awesome coffee, right on the 10 bus.

Three...is a restaurant/bar at Linwood and E. Baltimore.

I can't get to Silver Spring without renting a car or getting a ride, myself.

The other hard thing about googling Three... is that they only have a crappy MySpace page.

Food is meh, but the desserts are great.

How about the 19th? It is a Sat.

Airhen suggested Dougherty's, by the Meyerhoff. I've never been there, but it is a lot more central than Three... On the other hand, I'll have to leave early. Buses back home from downtown on a Sat. night are rare.

If we do Three..., I can stay later. Like past 7:30.

I can commit to either.

What do you guys think?

I'm hearing a distinct antipathy towards E. Baltimore.

The weekend after Artscape sucks for me. I should have remembered when it is, sorry. After all, I'm volunteering down there.

Never been to the Midtown Yacht Club. 15 E. Center St. City Paper seems to like it. How about there on the 19th, starting at 6 or 7?

Airight. Posted. I'll be there starting at 6. I'll be the old, uncool person with the stuffed crab.

My red stuffed crab, with baby crabs in the zipper innards.

I'm too embarassed to wear the crab hat.

I figure even in Baltimore, no one sits in a bar with a plushie crab.

MeTa post: Thread pagination +500 comments
Images broke up the page for me, and helped me to find where on the page I'd left off reading if I wandered off to check something else or took a smoke break or something.

So, yeah, really huge comment threads can be a pain.

Shot them in the back. For a property crime. An attempted property crime.

Even by Texas standards, that was a damned sissy thing to do. Immoral and unethical, too, but I'm not sure those words aren't too long.

Yeah, I know I'm stereotyping horribly, bite me.

Nope. Don't know that person. I was an officer for Jim, then for Derek in, oh, 1989-90, around then. Then I worked switchboard midnights on the weekends, when I went back to MHC.

Derek was a good guy. Never complained when I had to roust him out of bed at dark o'clock in the morning. The administration didn't treat him right, but, I suppose one would expect that.

It doesn't surprise me they don't have the information. A lot of us library geeks spend a lot of time making sure we can't be asked for the kinds of information we don't want to give to law enforcement. Got to be some business folks nearly as smart as us.

It was poorly framed, but I am confused by the deletion. The comments weren't even that negative.

It may have been better to have other links about how this affected her career in the US, did she go on to make navel-gazing, one issue albums that deserved to be ignored, and, if so, was it in knee-jerk reaction to the reactions to her, but we never had the chance to get there.

It drives me crazy, yes.

However, having worked reference in a library, I know that both asking and answering questions are far more difficult than they seem. Also, asking the right questions to refine the original question is difficult.

What I've been wondering is if people are not reading as carefully as they used to. I see a lot of comments that make no sense at all if you read the entire question at slower than warp speed.

I agree that green posts should count. Why add to the assholery so common on the blue, when folks don't really have anything to say by encouraging any old kind of post just to be able to share something?

If someone has been reading the blue, and trying to provide answers in ask.metafilter, that shows they know how to make a useful contribution. And, what is a FPP but an attempt to make a useful contribution to the site?

Because I was a BBSer, I got tapped to become the techie at the library where I worked. That led to getting a CNE and becoming a computer pro.

The religion derail was really annoying. As someone in the thread said, this is an engineering problem, not a theological issue.

There are a lot of people who won't use alcohol based extracts for all kinds of reasons (including me). Parma didn't need to tell us it was for religious reasons, but, once they did, it should have been treated like other extraneous information, and ignored.
