Need Buffy Artifacts
Any strong thoughts on liquado's suggestion of making it more black-ops, less steampunk? I was thinking labels along the lines of a typeset form filled out long-hand, attached to each piece.
Other suggestions I've collected from another buffy fan (I could use photos of the tougher-to-imagine bits if people can track 'em down):
cross
holy water
Mr. Pointy (Buffy's stake)... [more]

I have no idea what to do.
Something like this happened to me too. Went to law school over other options due to life plans. They didn't pan out. Now I'll be heading to Denver in the summer to go get a job. I've started to cut down on life plans. 6 months out or so is plenty.

What qualities do YOU look for in your legal secretary?
Lockstockbarrel has it on the nose. I worked for a couple of little firms in high school and in college, both of which made me realize that I at least liked some of the grunt work of the law, so I think it was worthwhile for me. The telling bit about both setups was that I had personal contacts at both firms, and that's how I got hired. I still suggest you go be a camp counselor or something, but personal connections are the way to go for these short-term, lackey with a future sorts of setups.... [more]

Bank is to blank as...
The more my bank stays out of my way and the less I have to think about it, the better. My interactions with it should be free, easy, and fast. You're starting with 100 points and can only lose them; not 0 points and gaining.

What to bring to live in the woods?
I picked this up from a friend and have used it to great success: draw a scrabble board and a chess board on your thermarest, and then bring a set of scrabble tiles. Dice also work well if you learn some dice games (hot dice is good times)

Wireless/microwaves disrupt pacemakers/aircraft how?
Mythbusters did a bit about this, and tried testing different phones to see if they could get any sort of a response in avionics. The answer was basically "maybe." To the best of everyone's knowledge, no plan has crashed because someone was ordering takeout. However, since new phones are rolled out daily, prudence has carried the day and they've gone the safe route of prohibiting them altogether.

How do I practice law?
To answer your question directly, find a law library. Law schools have 'em, as do many major court districts. You can usually find a helpful law librarian that will point you in the direction of some treatises; they're sort of what your high school physics book is to physics. They show the basics.
I agree with the others that a lawsuit likely isn't the best approach in many of your situations. Outside of small claims court, if you want to file a civil suit you'll... [more]

Doesn't everyone exaggerate the size of Lake Ontario?
I grew up in MN, Franken spoke at my university once. The place was packed, and he was fantastic. He was funny, but he seemed to really care about the issues, and wasn't afraid to show emotion over the things he cared about.

seekerofsplendor, that's right, nobody needs "real" qualifications other than being well-liked for the job. The theory is that the populous will elect those they feel can best represent their concerns, or "represent" them.
There isn't an exam or anything, aside from the one in the public eye.

How to effectively teach law students legal research and writing?
I'm a rising 3L. My $.02:
Make sure they're good at bluebooking, but stress why bluebooking is important to learn now, and how much knowing the rules by heart (or at least how to use the bluebook) in the future. The same goes for writing clearly; stress how court clerks will start to blow through your briefs if you write poorly.
Stress that legal writing is a different *kind* of writing, and that it's almost a return to the 5 paragraph... [more]

Jayder and ironmouth both have hit some important points.
As a finer point, I agree completely with showing the students well-written BRIEFS, rather than well-written opinions. They've read so many opinions after the first week that their minds will be drifting towards muddled language.

Stick it out. It's just two weeks. Bring a book or something of the like, or start writing to occupy yourself.

Also, as a bit of unsolicited advice, you may want to re-examine how tough you really have it there. You can't get into a book because of interruptions and harsh lights?

How to survive secondary school?
This has been alluded to in a few answers, but I'd like to stress it: allow her to find her own interests, and pay attention to her when she finds them. I did the whole sports thing in middle school, but it didn't take me terribly long to realize that I didn't like it all that much and wasn't that good at it either. I found my niche in theatre and competitive speech, and thrived there.
Also, this thread may provide some food for thought.... [more]

Quality, durable, leather journal?
I'm with Ookseer, why not moleskine? The problem I've had with a lot of leather-bound journals is that they look pretty but the binding is crap. I've never had issues with moleskines.

Quick: how do I become a good student?
Lots of good advice here. I'm a rising 3L at a T25, and here's what worked for me:
9-5 schedule. I don't work well in the evenings; I tend to get spacy and think of other things. So I generally worked from 9-5 and took the evenings off. Probably worked 2/3 of a day on the weekends. YMMV.
A study group worked for me. Some people work well with study groups, others don't, but I knew at the outset that I was one of those people that did work... [more]

I could swing 9-5 w/ a journal, no job. YMMV.
In the same vein, I don't think firm life always = 11 hour days + weekends.
