Research assistant for MIT Game Industry Project

I am running a project analyzing the game industry at MIT, and I need help identifying the founders and status of all of the companies who have developed PC games. There are 3,800 companies in total, but you don't have to do all of them! I would like help to find out, as best as possible, company founding dates; who founded them; and when and if they went out of business, were sold, or merged with other companies. I have a bit of grant money available to pay people as Research Assistants on a per-company basis. In all honesty, it isn't a huge amount, but if you are interested in the game industry or business academia, then this could be a useful experience and resume builder as well. Additionally, there would be opportunities, if you want, to interview and interact with some key designers and executives in the game industry, and possibly other useful connections as well.
