Crash Davis: It's time to work on your interviews.
Ebby Calvin LaLoosh: My interviews? What do I gotta do?
Crash Davis: You're gonna have to learn your clichés. You're gonna have to study them, you're gonna have to know them. They're your friends. Write this down: "We gotta play it one day at a time."
Ebby Calvin LaLoosh: Got to play... it's pretty boring.
Crash Davis: 'Course it's boring, that's the point. Write it down.

'Rejected' Dark Knight script
You guys. A giant robot pisses all over John Turturro. What the fuck else could you possibly want?
Okay, but seriously, I would watch In the Name of the King again--yes, again--before rewatching Transformers. If only for Burt Reynolds' death scene, where I'm pretty sure he might have actually died. Or Matthew Lillard's performance, which just makes the viewer want to die.

the Metafilter thread on the Violet Blue affair is now longer than that provoked by 9/11.
Nice poke in the asshole there, jackass. Because clearly, more comments = more care! It's so tiring having 9/11 be the zombie metric for measuring against what you're allowed to be upset about.

Oh look, we have created enchantment.
The male rejection of adulthood is now the dominant attitude in Hollywood comedy.
It is perhaps worth pointing out that as we speak the number one movie in America right now is Sex and the City.

"The Worst"
Whenever this sort of discussion breaks out, I am compelled to mention Leda Had A Little Swan, by one Mr. Bamber Gascoigne, which was a comedy about bestiality, set in the future when animals were given to adolescents as sexual surrogates to help them through puberty. You can read about it in William Goldman's immortal The Season by doing a search inside at Amazon.

No, the most compelling argument is that it's in the Constitution and if you start ignoring the bits that you don't much like, why shouldn't I or George Bush or James Dobson start ignoring the bits that they don't much like.

“So we aren't any closer to unification than we were in Einstein's time?” the historian asked. Feynman grew angry. “It's a crazy question!...We're certainly closer. We know more. And if there's a finite amount to be known, we obviously must be closer to having the knowledge, okay? I don't know how to make this into a sensible question... It's all so stupid. All these interviews are always so damned useless.”... [more]

Seeing Andy Warhol's face pop up as a Love Boat guest star just about gave me the brain-fall-outs.
Besides [Warhol's] own shows he regularly made guest appearances on other programs, including "The Love Boat" wherein a Midwestern wife (Marion Ross) fears Andy Warhol will reveal to her husband (Tom Bosley, who starred alongside Ross in sitcom Happy Days) her secret past as a Warhol superstar named Marina del Rey.

Fair cop on the carbon fiber composite; brain misfire. But still: this show is about pretending to be scientific while really, they just want to gleefully smash shit. I guess I'd maybe be okay if they just called it "Smash!" and dispensed with the fake problem-solving.
Or! They could team up with Ben Bailey for "Smash Cab," which would be sort of like Cloverfield, but with trivia.

If it makes anybody feel better, both of Seattle's newspapers are terrible. Then there's always the Stranger, which is also garbage, but they often write "fuck," so. There's also Seattle Weekly, which nobody has read since 1998, but is useful for mopping up household chemical spills. Anyway, reading is fundamental, motherfuckers!

Okay I get it, but it's constrained by the need to fit the text in the panel, and therefore the language needs to be simplified, how does this make it anything other than a novel for people that like pictures and don't like big words, or a TV show for people without access to an Ipod with video?
Oh, come on. All art forms have constraints. The beauty of (good) comics is how well they work within those constraints. Would you... [more]
