Need for Speed
You can buy a used Porsche 928S for less than $15k. Not the most reliable car, but if you take care of it it'll run forever.
If you want something newer and more reliable, a recent model used Nissan 350Z is going to be the fastest feeling car in your price range.

How much work history to include?
Try to re-frame past experience to show skills that are applicable to both.
Keep it to one page, so trim really old, really irrelevant stuff. I keep mine to the last three jobs (but I've only had three post-college jobs). As I get a new job, the old one drops off the back, or gets condensed into a single line.

Grandfather clock stops, then stops again.
They're much more subtle than you'd think. You have to get them exactly level and often there are little screws to adjust the pendulums swing length and such up in the mechanism. Find a pro and have them come out and set it up for you. That's what I had to do after trying on my own to get it to run for more than an hour.

Favicons not showing up
Don't use the IE8 Beta in production. It's only intended for developer testing. You should run it on a test machine or a virtual machine.

Dollar Coin Conundrum
No. I asked my bank about this. If you call them in advance and tell them how many you want they can get them for you. I like carrying them around to leave as tips for waiters. And I like the idea of carrying around a bag of gold coins.

XP Filter: I set up a non admin account for safer computing -- Am I safe enough now?
What you've done is pretty good.
I wouldn't even bother with Anti-virus unless you plan on actually downloading and installing crap from random sites. Usually they do more harm than good.
However, let me suggest this as a safer alternative: don't browse the web from your primary OS installation at all.
Download Virtual PC and setup a VM from which you browse the web, and turn on the HD... [more]

Also, Windows Zones is a pretty decent product that gives you Vista-like privilege reduction.

How can I find the insurance company of the person who hit my car?
Yeah, I had this happen to me once. The Seattle PD failed to write down the name of the insurance company. I just started calling all the big ones and eventually one of the people I talked to said, "Oh, I'm pretty sure that's a Farmers account number." And it was.
Just explain what you're doing and be nice and persevere and you'll find what you seek.

You don't need to invoke the FOIA. If your name is on a police report, they have to give you a copy. Just go down there and pay a few bucks for the copy-fee.

Take me out to the ball game?
Are there rules about when a pitcher can throw the ball? I mean, batters take forever getting into their stance. Can the pitcher throw the ball anytime the guy is in the box, or does he have to wait for the batter to be ready? And if so, how does he know?

get IE7 to play nice...
Another thing you can try is go to the Internet Control Panel (Start->Control Panel->Internet Options) and on the Advanced tab there should be a Reset... button. This will reregister all of the IE components (and reset a bunch of things such as history and the cache). This is very similar to re-installing without quite as much pain. I'd try that first.
Another thing you can try is starting IE without add-ons: Start->Programs->Accessories->System... [more]

+1 for Roald Dahl.
Recently I read and enjoyed the following:
Fragile Things by Neil Gaiman
The Ladies of Grace Adieu by Susana Clarke
Bagombo Snuff Box by Kurt Vonnegut (Okay, that's a lie. I read it along time ago.)... [more]

Applying to grad school
I have to submit a personal statement.
Is there a topic? Or any sort of guidence?
My personal statement was supposed to be "Why I Want to Go to Grad School." If that is what they want you to write as well, be clear, concise and professional. Explain your experience to date (this is where you hand wave over your undergrad GPA), explain how this has prepared you for grad school, explain what you hope grad school... [more]

Can I map my phone?
I think the little copyright notice on all the images points to "no."
GPS is probably what you want. Notice they charge for various map packages.
Also, paper maps are awesome. You can hang them on your walls when you get home.

Best book for a beginner to learn C?
Deitel and Deitel is horrible, terrible and boring. Sorry, I can't really recommend it.
I learned C++ using the Borland Turbo C++ 3.0 manual and found it quite useful, but I suppose that isn't really something one can easily find these days.

I would recommend Stroustrup's books.... [more]

Eat Food, but which leaves, and how?
Bok Choy is one of my favorites.
I think Brussle Sprouts count too.
Whole Foods always has a pretty interesting selection of leafy things.
You can always grill or bake them with a little olive oil, salt and pepper.
And, I don't know about you, but I'll put just about anything in an omelet.

Just how sketchy is it anyway?
I have a friend who lives very near there, and I've never felt worried. A couple things:
1) Are you on the ground floor? I wouldn't want a ground floor apartment. Anything above that would be much better.
2) North is toward the Space Needle. West is toward the water. East is uphill. You can go North West or North East, but I'd avoid going South (toward the ID) or due West (to pioneer square) at night, unless you're specifically going to PS... [more]

How much time does a project manager spend on the "red tape" of project management?
Depends on the company. I've never been a PM, but I have worked with many.
Good project managers, imho, spend their time doing whatever it takes to keep the engineers on task. Which means intercepting randomizing questions and input from managment, playing the political game, running interference and making sure the engineers have the resources they need to do what they need to do.
If, after all that, there is time left PMs can help design and architect things.

Seattle-area Property Management?
I have had a good experience using Windermere so far. No warnings or negatives, other than they were a bit steep (10%) for the management fee. However, they have proven to be very reliable. This is in Kirkland, btw, and it is a house that I own and rent.
I get a statement every month. Everything is done via e-mail. If I need something done, I just send e-mail and it gets done. They do the background checks, the credit checks, show the house, do the advertising, etc.... [more]
